I currently own one of these fountains for my 2 cats, and recently purchased a second fountain to put around the house. I also have several extra filters (sold in packages of 3). It makes no noise or humming sounds, although it might be nice to hear the sound of flowing water. My cats enjoy this fountain, pawing at the water falling down the dome. I have not tried out any other fountains, so I do not know how it compares with similar products.
