A Little Moderncat Design at ICFF

Curve by Akemi Tanaka

This past week was ICFF, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, one of the largest shows of contemporary design, held annually in New York City. Apparently, the pet offerings were a bit slim this year, but designer Akemi Tanaka showed a prototype of this stylish and minimal new cat perch, called Curve. The molded plywood shelf attaches to the wall and was originally designed as a window seat. The pad snaps in place to keep kitty from sliding off. No pricing or availability info yet, but I will be sure to post an update when it is.

Curtains Made Just for Kitty: Introducing Catain by Designer Sandy Lam

Posted by moderncat

Catain

Industrial Designer Sandy Lam took notice of how cats love to play with curtains and used it as inspiration for her new product concept, Catain, a curtain for cats. The modular curtain is made from square panels that attach with Velcro. Assemble the squares however you like and use Catain as a curtain or room divider.

Catain

Panel designs include:

  1. Chain panel that lets cats walk through from one side to the other
  2. Domed panel where cats can hide or nap
  3. Burlap and felt combo for a texture sensation
  4. Dangling catnip mice for hours of entertainment
  5. Pockets with refillable catnip pouches
  6. Woven panel for scratching and rubbing

Entertainment for kitty and art for you! However, kitty may think that all the curtains are fair game after getting a taste of this idea.

Best Product Name Ever: Introducing the Kitt-In Box

Posted by moderncat

Do you have “kitten-on-the-keyboard” syndrome? I certainly have quite a bit of furry help whenever I work on posts for Moderncat (see below). Well, the folks at The Refined Feline have come up with a solution, very appropriately named the Kitt-In Box. This stylish wooden box can be mounted to the desk edge to keep kitty close by but not on your keyboard. You can also choose to place the Kitt-In Box on your desk and the felt feet will protect your desk from scratches. The soft cushion has a machine washable cover and the high sides will make kitty feel right at home. Choose from a variety of finishes to match your office decor

As if you needed proof:

IKEA Bastis Blond

In case you were wondering where Boba got the cool white fur pad that he is lounging on in the moderncat gallery, it is a member of the Bastis Blond family at IKEA. The pad can be purchased by itself and used alone or on your cat’s favorite lounger (as Boba demonstrates with his Fatboy), or you can pair it with the Bastis Blond rattan cat bed/house.

As if the SunSpa weren’t enough, you can also provide your moderncat with the soothing relief of far infrared heat with the Fauna Sauna. This device soothes your cat with deep penetrating, healing warmth without overheating. Apparently years of research and testing have gone into perfecting the Fauna Sauna and the manufacturer claims that it is extremely safe for pets. This technology is used in many medical applications for its positive healing effects and is said to reduce pain, stiffness, skin irritations, stress, and anxiety in pets.

Sun Therapy for Your Moderncat

Posted by moderncat

Every cat needs a little sunshine in their life, right? Well if you live in an overcast climate, here’s the perfect thing for kitty, the SunSpa for pets. Simulating sunlight shining through a window, the 150-watt bulb keeps the bed between 80 and 85 degrees and lasts for 5000 hours. The bed’s foam pad is covered in stain-, odor-, and water-resistant Crypton Fabric. If kitty can’t curl-up in a sunny window, this might be the next best thing.
