This project to convert an IKEA organizer into a charging station (for all those electronic gadgets) originally appeared in ReadyMade Magazine, but thanks to Moderncat reader Brieanne, here we have a terrific cat-friendly variation.
Since Brieanne’s cats like to chew on cords, she and her husband decided that this would be a good project for them to tackle. The idea is to create a drawer for each device and to feed the cords through the back. Breanne chose to make drawers for Pod (iPod), Click (camera), and Chat (phone), plus an info drawer for the manuals, warranties, etc. The bottom opening happened to work nicely for a laptop docking station, but only with the drawer removed.

What to do with that extra drawer? Pop it on the top, line it with a soft blanket and, voila! an in-box for your cat. Here are some process photos: testing and supervising.

Thanks, Brieanne!

I would love this! My cats would prefer to chew on the cords, of course. Am going to the IKEA.com site right now…

Brieanne’s project is awesome!
A powersquid can be helpful for DIY electrical/cat stuff, especially if you have to deal with power supplies and whatnot.

*Agree with Jason*
And that is a beautiful model in the stripes. What’s her name?

thanks for the compliments, everyone! the “model” is stuart–his twin brother ben was being shy for the camera…stu, as you can see, is not shy. at all.

This is as brilliant as it is hilarious. Only cat people could come up with this (which is why cat people rock). Bravo!

OMG. I’m totally making that. My cat is all over my desk while I’m working and although it’s cute as hell, it drives me nuts.

What a brilliant idea. It looks fantastic and I love the words you chose to use.
