My 13 year old cat started showing signs of being quite ill after eating some of the recalled Nutro food. He was very lethargic and vomiting. My vet ran tests and he is severely anemic due to a nutritional deficiency! He could have died. Please please, if your cats have eaten this food, and showing any signs of illness, get them to the vet.

We also used the Nutro pouch foods until the recall and had the same horrific reaction as Amy(#11). Our cat kids are now Wellness fans.
Our dry food has always been Flint River Ranch (frrco.com) though, they have an excellent cat kibble product line. All people grade ingredients. You won’t find it in stores because shipping is free.

I used Nutro and switched after the wet food recall in 2007, which ended up making my senior kitty very sick. I thought I was buying one of the best foods available and it turns out it was the same junk that was in a lot of the other cheap brands. I switched to Wellness, which my kitties LOVE. Petsmart doesn’t carry it yet but Petco and Whole Foods do. Although recently I’ve been ordering it off of PetFoodDirect. There are much better pet food options now, including food that is grain-free and human grade.

My fuzzball and I thank you so much for this post. Our bag of cat food is on the recall list, so I’d better return it to the store and bring home other food before she decides she’s hungry! Even if she shows no signs of illness (which I’ll be watching closely for), it’s still scary to know that the food she’s been eating isn’t what I intended for her to eat.

I don’t know how I would have found out about this recall otherwise. My mom works for a vet, and she must not know about this.

The site says to call your vet if your cat has symptoms including vomiting or diarrhea, but what kind of problems can this cause, are any long lasting? I wish the website for the food would have been more comprehensive in what to look for or what could happen. I don’t have this food, just worried about the ones who do and don’t get the notice about the recall!
