I want to share with you the work of one of my favorite artists, Matte Stephens. Matte is a painter who currently lives in Portland, Oregon. He is inspired by all things mid-century modern, as you can see reflected in his work. He must also be a cat lover, since he incorporates whimsical cat images into many of his paintings. I’ve collected some of my favorites here.

You may have seen Matte’s illustrations around, since he’s done work for American Express, Herman Miller, The Boston Globe, and countless magazines. His work is also featured rgularly at Jonathan Adler and Velocity Art and Design. To learn more about Matte, check out the interview he did with the guys over at Grain Edit and be sure to visit Matte’s blog for his latest news. Also, make sure to visit Matte’s Etsy shop where you can pick-up one of his creations for your very own.

I was not familiar with Matte’s work, but I am now a big fan. I really love the one on the top left, the look on the cat’s face says it all!
Thanks for the introduction.

WOW! LOVE Matte’s work! (and wish I could buy it instead of spending $$$ on major plumbing upgrades — sheesh!)

I love the big fat wide-eyed blue-gray tiger-striped kitty. It looks like my Noodles McLovin!
