Unfortunately, the US housing crisis continues. Everyday people are being forced out of their homes due to financial difficulty and many of them are faced with the unthinkable — the reality that they must give up their beloved pets. In the worst situations, people are abandoning pets along with their homes. Some animals have been left to survive on their own for days and even weeks. There is an organization based here in Arizona that is doing something about this crisis. Lost Our Home Pet Foundation is a non-profit organization started by a group of animal-loving real estate professionals who rescue pets that are left behind due to foreclosures or other financial hardships.
Founded last summer, Lost Our Home has created several programs to help pet owners facing foreclosure. Lost Our Home offers financial aid to help pet owners keep their pets, they also have a pet food bank and a foster program to temporarily house pets, as well as an adoption program for owners who must permanently give up their pets. They even have a rescue aid program for foreclosure-related pet emergencies.
Please visit the Lost Our Home website for more information about this organization and consider making a donation to support the important work they are doing. Even if you don’t live in Arizona, I believe that Lost Our Home can serve as a model for programs in other cities looking to do something similar.

What a wonderful organization! It makes me so sad to think about the poor people who not only loose their home but also their pets! I would love to see this kind of organization pop up in many other states!
I’ll be posting this information as well. Thank you for making me aware of the Lost Our Home Pet Foundation.

Shared on all four networks and applaud the wonderful people who are doing this critically important work of love and compassion. Hope their example is emulated everywhere. It takes a village to save a cat, too.

Anybody who abandons their pet in a home should be jailed immediately. There’s no excuse for that kind of abuse and pets are not just the disposable toys that some seem to regard them as.
Every time that I hear about a home being found with an abandoned animal I want to just draw and quarter the people who didn’t have the heart to at least take the poor animal to a shelter.
I’ve adopted shelter and abandoned animals so I have no tolerance for that at all.

In my city, we have the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Here, everyone is moving the same day (July 1st) because it’s Canada Day and that means holiday.
Too many cats are left behind on July 1st. The SPCA is having a hard time to find new home for all the cats.

Absolutely agree with you, Dave and Timothy Sternberg. It is OUR responsibility, individually and collectively, to be the change we want to see and to make our societies, wherever we live, compassionate, caring, and personally responsible.

Well, what is the problem and why shall;l people abandon their pets. I think it should be rendered as a crime and people shall be fined for this. And for that reason to locate the owners, every pet shall has an ID card.
I appreciate the above organization for their services.
Thanks a lot. Wish to see a lot more.
