One of my favorite design blogs, Remodelista, recently posted a collection of natural fiber “poufs” which are meant to be used as footstools or low seating, but you better believe that any moderncat would take a liking to these great forms and natural materials. I actually have the banana leaf stool from IKEA, which I purchased just for the cats. I assumed they would scratch on it and that I would have to throw it out eventually, but they actually treat it like their most prized possession! They all take turns sitting on it, occasionally knocking each other off for a turn. It’s the perfect size and shape and they seem to love the texture. We call it “the tuffet.”

Hello all, I have searched IKEA for this Alseda banana fiber stool using many dif wordings and search always comes up 0. Is is no longer available from this posting being old. ??? I purchased my banana leaf stool at the IKEA store last spring. I believe it is a seasonal item that only comes out with the summer lawn furniture and when they are gone, they don’t put them back in stock until the following year. I think that because I wanted one last year and when I went to purchase it in the fall, they were gone. I’ve never seen it on the IKEA website, just in the store.

Those kitties are sittin’ pretty on their Alsedas — we LOVE ours and it does multi-duty as a scratch station and perch for the tailed ones, and a headrest/footstool for human types. I had to physically go to an IKEA store to get mine, and there was only one there, in the garden/wicker department. Good luck, Alseda searchers! PS Buy two — one for you, one for your CATS!

Bummer on the Ikea deal that they’re seasonal. I have a trip planned there in a couple weeks. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled anyway.
It does look like World Market has something SUPER cheap and similar too.

I have a woven seagrass laundry basket in my room which my cat loves to sleep on! It catches the late afternoon sun so i can often find her snoozing there. She does occasionally scratch the sides of it….normally in the middle of the night so it wakes me up!

They seem to be discontinued at Ikea for the time being… I just checked this past weekend. I searched all over town for something similar Pier One has something but it’s $99! Luckily I found 4 of them on craigslist!!! For $10 each!!! Our gang love to scratch our rattan chairs. The verdict is still out on these though. I have a couple stacked up and I sprinkled catnip on all of them.
