We received an amazing 1907 responses to the Moderncat reader survey! Thank you so much to everyone for providing such valuable information. It’s nice to know who’s reading and to hear a little about what you like and what you don’t like so I can make Moderncat even better.
So, here’s a peek at who the Moderncat readers are:
- The majority of readers (67%) own 1 or 2 cats, but plenty of people own 3 or more, with 2% in the 10+ category
- 78% of your cats live inside only
- 96% of your cats came from a rescue or shelter and 13% from a breeder (people could choose more than one, if they have more than one cat, so the total exceeds 100%)
- 94% are spayed or neutered
- 59% of you consider your cats to be your children
- 83% of readers who completed the survey live in the US, 7% in Canada, 3% in the U.K., and 2% in Australia, but we have representation from 32 other countries as well
- Surprise, surprise 92% female. But we love our Moderncat guys, too!
- Like me, 81% of you do not have human kids

I didn’t participate in the survey but I’m really glad we mostly adopt from shelters and the great majority of our cats are fixed. I consider myself in intelligent and humane company here, and that rules.
