What to do with all that excess cat fur? You can make a sweater, or you can make cat toys, or if you’re so inclined, you can make art. That’s just what Katrin Paul did when she created this art installation Fur Balls (as Thunderclouds) at Youkobo Art Space in Tokyo. Katrin’s four gorgeous black kitties served as the inspiration and material source for this art piece featuring large closeup photos of the cats as well as suspended clusters of furballs.

That must have required a lot of FURmination!

The funny thing is that the link for “large close up photos” mentions that she is using black in her art, but does not mention that the subject of those photos are cats!
I admit, I never thought of shed cat hair as art. But then, I’m not an artist!

I have used fur from my 5 cats in my wool felting projects – just a piece of love going into art projects…

How creative! I love it! That provides people with new ideas… perhaps during christmas I’ll make some cat-hair ornaments!!!

I feel woefully inadequate and dull after seeing this exercise of creativity and imagination.
Just think of all I could have done to date with the sheddings of the 30+ cats who have shared/share my life and environments.
But there’s no time like the present, right?

Wow, it is hard to believe all that fur came from her four cats. Just goes to show even short haired ones should be brushed every day so they won’t ingest it! There will be less on your couch too.

I love the ingenuity of it all. I have an orange tabby, a gray, and a tuxedo. Maybe I’ll collect their hair and make some confused rainclouds.

If artists can use furballs for art, then they must be worth something, yes? Instead of chucking her furballs, Cassie wants to start saving them! She is also trying to come up with a furball catcher and roller-upper! Could be an idea worth taking to the Dragon’s Den….. you think?

I throw my cats’ fur into the yard so birds can use it in their nests. I never realized I was throwing away valuable art supplies!

You can also make paint brushes out of cat hair. A friend uses her cat hair brush to paint designs on her pottery. Very creative!
