Kim and her boyfriend took a trip to IKEA in search of something they could hack to create a window perch for their cats. They ended up in the baby section where they found a simple two-shelf changing table called Sniglar.

Kim knew she wanted a narrow napping spot for the cats to perch on, so they cut the table in half and attached it to the wall. Then Kim made two custom cushions with some gorgeous mod fabric, and there you have it! To see more photos, check out Kim’s Flickr album and be sure to visit Kim’s blog to see the cool pottery display shelf she made with the other half.

Fantastic idea! Just what the kittys ordered on top of it all. Love to have one.

Am wondering how they attached it to the wall. (Being the non-handy person I am…)

Awesome! I love how they did this

Genius!
Personally, I really enjoy the changing table in MY Creature’s nursery. It’s not multi-level like this but still v. v. comfortable!

Wendee, my bf cut strips of wood and mounted them on the wall below each shelf for support, and screwed the shelves into that. He also screwed the frame of the change table into the wall with long screws (aiming at an angle).

What a great idea, and I *love* the bright mod fabrics she used for the cushions.

Looks great, even better without the two legs, and mounted to the wall. I’m sure it becomes very stable. Also, the fabric for the cushion is very cute! Congratulations!

What a great idea! I need to make one for my cats – they don’t quite fit on the sill…

Thanks everyone! I cannot tell you how glad I am we built this as it gets used daily by just about every one of my 6 cats.
