I think it's good that the companies ask you to try their products! That way, you can tell us if they're any good, and maybe even pass them off to us for free!

BTW, I am a little *selfishly* sad that your site is so popular. It makes the chances of winning the giveaways that much smaller! :)

Thanks for letting us know, for being ethical, and for PUTTING CATS FIRST. That's what your readers love about Moderncat (oh, and the cats don't hurt, either!;) )

Thanks for the info - I really appreciate your letting everyone know that. I had assumed that the ads were paid - they were obviously not the same "adsense" type ads I have seen, and it was obviously not the kind that some free blog sites post to keep the sites free. I also appreciate that you are honest about companies asking you to try their products -I know most of the blogs I follow post that info too but there are some out there that don't let you know up front, and for me at least it makes me question the reviews. I have been asked to post ads and try products on my blog, and for me personally I don't do it - because it isn't what my blog is about (if I buy something for the cats that they go nuts over I will usually talk about it). With this blog it is different (and, by the way, awesome) and for me at least, I did come in assuming that it was more of a money making blog (that doesn't really sound right - I look at it like the cool cats stuff version of Engadget, a site I also frequent - like it has great items and honest info but is not just a personal blog - I don't want to make it seem like I think it is some big money grab because that isn't what I think at all). I believe the reviews are honest on this site - I just never have gotten the impression you would rave about something just to get in good with a manufacturer - and that is a high compliment now a days. I love that the site gives me info on products that I know I would be interested in - it is the first place I have found this info in one place (again, like with Engadget). I know that if I see something and want to find out more info I can come here and see if there is anything written about it, to get a good idea about the item before I buy it, or if I am looking for something but not sure exactly what I can come here to get ideas and learn where to purchase it. But I wanted to thank you for this post because it great to see someone being honest about stuff with so many blogs not doing that now-a-days. I think it is a great site (I would totally recommend it to anyone who was looking for this stuff) and hope it is around for a long time!

Congratulations, Kate! Moderncat looks great, and I am sure is a full-time job. http://www.TheDailyTail.com has become a full-time job, too. It’s amazing how much we have to do to keep up with the content, the community and the technical side. But I haven’t been happier in my life. It’s really rewarding to work on a pet-related project.
