Another big find from the Super Zoo Pet Expo is the brand new Neater Feeder pet feeding system. This is perfect if you have a cat, like my Sophie, who makes a big mess while she eats and drinks. The folks at Neater Feeder sent me one to test and there are a lot of things I really like about this product.
The idea behind the Neater Feeder is that it contains food and water spills, keeping your floors and walls clean while creating a more sanitary eating environment. The top portion of the feeder has nice high walls to contain the mess, and it holds two removable stainless steel bowls. Spilled food stays inside the top section and spilled water drains into the bottom reservoir. The whole feeder is constructed of sturdy plastic and has awesome non-skid feet to hold it in place. In addition to containing the mess, the Neater Feeder provides a raised feeding surface to help improve kitty’s digestion. All parts of the feeder can be placed in the dishwasher for easy cleaning.

But wait, there’s more!
Now here is the feature that really caught my attention. For those of you who feed outdoor cats, the Neater Feeder has a special bug-proof design! The top portion of the feeder has an overhanging edge that keeps ants and other bugs from climbing over the edge and into the food. When I heard about this secondary feature I knew the Moderncat readers would be interested. I’ve seen other bug-deterring bowls, like the Fool-A-Bug Bowl, but none with all the other features of the Neater Feeder.
Based on my experience — and the particular way my Sophie makes a mess — I wouldn’t use the Neater Feeder with both water and food at the same time because a lot of Sophie’s food would just end up in the water dish. So, if you have the same situation, my suggestion is to use the feeder with either two bowls of water or two bowls of food, or perhaps in the next design, the folks at the Neater Feeder could add another divider between the two bowls. Just my thoughts, but I plan to keep using my Neater Feeder because I haven’t had to clean the food off the floor at all, when normally I’m picking up spilled food all day long.
The cat-sized Neater Feeder is $34.99 US and comes in two beautiful color choices, cranberry or bronze. You can purchase the feeder directly from the Neater Feeder website, and also at Amazon.

oh, man, that rocks. Yeah, one for each would be critical. (Wonder if it would discourage the raccoons from washing their finds… sigh)
October 20th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Definitely iterested in testing it out!
October 20th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
With 6 kitties, we sure could use a neater anything!
October 20th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
My vision-impaired kitty would love this, as the “wings” would help him locate his food – and so would I, since the sweetie wouldn’t make such a mess once he found it!
October 20th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
great idea
October 20th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
My cat needs one of these!
October 20th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
I’ve been looking for something like this.
October 20th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Ahhh!!! This would make our kitty food area SO much more clean! She spills water all over and food is a disaster! This feeder would be amazing! GREAT idea!
October 20th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Yes! Yes! Yes! I totally understand!
October 20th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
I would love to try this out! I have a cat that has foiled every water bowl we’ve tried, and made a mess with all of them. If this would actually keep our floors clean, it would be fantastic! Cool design!
October 20th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Wow! That does seem very practical. I agree that a divider between the two bowls would proably be helpful, and they could also offer single bowls for people who might want to keep them completely separate, or for people that might already have something like a water fountain & do not need the water bowl. Other colors is alawys good too, though I like this set.
October 20th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
I think this is fantastic! I’m constantly sweeping up cat food and have been trying to come up with a way to keep the feeding area neater, this is really great.
October 20th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
I want that for my messy Pepper! sally
October 20th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Purrfect for my kitty. She spills more than she manages to eat.
October 20th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Oh thats amazing! One of my cats does something I’ve never had another cat do, and leaves a fair amount of little bits of food debris all over their eating area every day. I’d love one of these!
October 20th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Sounds like it might work for my cats.
October 20th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
I so want this!
October 20th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
Going in the dishwasher makes life so great!!
October 20th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
I’ve sometimes thought my cats had been raised by a wolf mother..if you judge by the mess they leave around the bowls. Food scattered about and they must think the water bowl is a splash pool. This clean bowls feeder would be a solution for us..unless the work together to upset the whole thing.
October 20th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
I have five indoor cats and four outdoor kittens that I am feeding!
I think this would be ideal for the outdoor kitties since bugs can’t
get into it and I love that I can throw the feeder part in the dishwasher as well!
October 20th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
This would be awesome, my cat MoJo always drags paper and toys in his water dish, I like the stainless design my cat cant have plastic food bowl anymore.
October 20th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
This is a great idea!
October 20th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
wow this is exactly what I need! Shelby won’t be spilling her water dish anymore! But I’ll still love her if she does
October 20th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
I need this so badly for my cats!! They leave such a mess on my kitchen floor (I wish I could post a pic!) I’m moving to a nicer place soon and have been looking for a new way to feed them that will keep both of us happy. This just might do the trick!
October 20th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
oh, I have one of my 4 that would be the candidate for this bowl system. She would love it.
October 20th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
THATS A GREAT PRODUCT, MY CATS ARE MESSY EATERS.
October 20th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
Wow. That is such an amazing product! Not a day goes by that Risto likes to use his paws to drag dry food out of his bowl and all over the floor – or that he decides to push some chunks of tuna half way across the kitchen floor!
October 20th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
With three darling little angels to feed every day, this would be a nice thing – my wood floors would appreciate it too.
October 20th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
My kitties spill food everywhere, this would be perfect!
October 20th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
One of the best feeding stations I’ve seen.
October 20th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
This is really great. I need something like this.. right now I have the shamwow on the botton of his water bowl.
October 20th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
This is a great idea. My furry kids are ALWAYS getting food on the floor. And it sounds great for my ferals too. They would appreciate the ants not getting to their food before they do. I wonder if it is also slug proof.
October 20th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
nice one!
October 20th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
my cat loves to talk and look around while she eats. help.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
My cats would like ther own food dishes, and it would keep the area clean around it so the dogs would not eat the leftovers neat idea
October 20th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. My cats are ruining the floor around the bowls because they splash water and spill food (which turns into a soggy smelly mess). Thank you!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
My two kittens are the messiest eaters ever – this would be perfect for them!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
This is such a great idea! It would make life a lot easier for me because I am constantly cleaning up crumbs and water spills. Less time cleaning = more time for kitty!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
I never noticed how messy cats can be when they eat until now! My kit always chews loudly and gets food all over his matt. Haha
October 20th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
I’ve got the two messiest eaters in the world for cats… I’d LOVE this!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
of course, if i win, i would have to purchase another because i have two kitties. this is the coolest invention especially since latelyi have had the ant problem. thanks for the opportunity to win this great idea!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
omg i need this! my cat’s food is raised up on a stand, there is a saucer with water as a ‘moat’ under his bowl and i STILL have to dustbust his eating area everyday to avoid ants! he’s such a pig when he eats!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
This is a great idea. I need 2!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
What a great idea. My four are very sloppy eaters and drinkers. And one loves to move the water bowl all around, no matter how heavy it is.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
My cat is a messy eater so we could definitely use this!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
my three kitties would LOVE to share this! I love the neatness factor that will keep my cats healthy!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
Our cat spills food all the time, I think this would actually solve the problem. The cat tends to push food around, dropping bites etc, so we get a trail of ants around the food tray. I think this would actually hold all the food in to one place, and we can just wash it after she is done. Great Design!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
Bugaboo is always so messy! This would help so much, I wouldn’t have to clean my kitchen floor three times a day. >.>
October 20th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
That is a great idea, but I am wondering if it can withstand my 4 monsters!
October 20th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
What an awesome idea! I really need one of these for my messy kitty. I use a place mat under her food bowls but her food tends to spill over it and I always end up cleaning the floor as well as the place mat. This little feeding station would be perfect for her.
