Giveaways, Litter & Hygiene

Toilet training your cat. They say it can be done, and CitiKitty has put together a complete Cat Toilet Training Kit to help make it incredibly easy. Now, I haven’t tried this yet myself, but after reading all about the CitiKitty I think I’m going to give it a shot.

The kit includes a training seat that is placed underneath the toilet seat to transition your cat from the litter box to the toilet. There’s also a training guide and a tip sheet, plus a packet of CitiNip catnip for use during the training process. The training guide has explicit instructions on how to first move your cat from using the litter box to using the toilet with litter, and then to using just the toilet with no litter. It’s a multi-step process that can be used with any cat that is healthy, at least three months old, and already successfully litter-box trained. It is also possible to train multiple cats at once.

According to CitiKitty, the benefits of toilet training your cat include:

  • NO MORE LITTER MESS Toilet trained cats do not use kitty litter, eliminating the mess and smell of a litter box from your home.
  • BETTER FOR YOUR CAT Because your cat is toilet trained they will no longer be exposed to chemicals and silica dust found in many litter brands, which has been proven to cause respiratory and other health-related problems in cats.
  • SAVE $$$ Toilet trained cat owners have the luxury of not having to purchase kitty litter, saving them thousands of dollars.
  • BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT Each year more than 4 billion pounds of kitty litter is sent to landfills in the United States. Most of that litter is made from strip mined clay which is a non-renewable resource. By toilet training your cat you help preserve precious resources.
  • MORE TIME FOR YOUR CAT Why spend endless hours cleaning up a litter box when you can be spending it playing with your cat!

Now, this may not be for every cat, but there are an awful lot of comments from satisfied customers on the CitiKitty website, and there seem to be quite a few success stories, so it just might work for your cat.

A few words about flushing cat feces

This is a controversial topic, as we found out last year during Litter Week. I uncovered some important information, first read this post about the problems that can be caused by flushing cat feces, then make sure to read the follow-up post about how it can be quite safe to flush in most situations.

I would actually like to try this. We already have a bathroom we call “the cats’ bathroom” because it’s basically a litter box and a cabinet with litter bags and cat food storage…

With 4 cats, this could be a pretty big deal in our house! :-)

  2. 2

I hope it comes with good instructions…for multiple cats. If it’s really possible, I’d love to give it a try. I’d love the benefits, & our crew have always been indoor kitties.

  3. 3

I have not yet tried to train either of my cats but have seriously considered it several times. I’ve trained them to do tricks, but that was always for a food reward, so I’m not sure how one would incorporate a reward into training a cat to use the toilet.

I would love to try, though, as I live in an apartment and have space issues. Not to mention the sheer amount of money I spend on cat litter (more than I spend on kitty food and treats, for sure).

    Thanks for the opportunity!

My husband talks a lot about training our cats to use the normal toilet maybe if we win we can give it a try ;o)

I would LOVE to toilet train my cats! I think, of the four, Lump would especially like the toilet training. He’s very fastidious about his litter box, and will pee in the tub if the box isn’t up to his standards. Luckily, we already have our litter box in the bathroom, so that’s one step down!

It would be great if my cats could forgo litter box usage. I’ve never tried toilet training my cats because it seemed like a big challenge; this kit makes it seem easy. The amount of money I could save is really making me think about trying it.

  8. 8

I’ve never tried to toilet train my two cats, but it would be AWESOME if I could.

  9. 9

This looks like a great design, I’d like to give it a try!

Looks like a good method to get a cat toilet trained!

I have never tried toilet training my cats as I had no idea how to go about doing it, but this kit makes it easy for me to learn how to teach them. Would love to be free of the litter box!

  12. 12

I have upstairs and downstairs litterboxes; it would be nice to get of them!

  13. 13

Wow! This looks like a great product and probably easy to use. Although as for how quickly my kitties may pick this up… I’d love to give it a shot though, especially since I live in an apartment and the litter box is currently in the kitchen (I know, terrible place for a litter box but there isn’t a better spot! — I’ve tried!) Anyway, it’s a great idea!

  14. 14

I ave always wanted to try this

  15. 15

Love it! Awesome idea. I’d love to get rid of our litter box and let Catman use the toilet.

Im a skeptic, so Id love to win to be able to say whether it works!

  18. 18

    I’d like to try this!

  19. 19

Perfect! Yes, cats are extremely intelligent and I can see this is a great product. Would love to have one!

I have never tried it and don’t know anyone personally who has but i am very interested and would love to give it a try! thanks for the chance to win this kit and shopping spree!

  21. 21

Well, I spend the first 20-30 minutes of each morning cleaning cat litter and the room the cat litter is in, so theoretically this products could save me over 2 hours a week in cleaning chores!

  22. 22

It would be cool to try this out!

  23. 23

Hmm, not sure how this would go over, but we’d give it a try!

  24. 24

I would love to try this out!

  25. 25

I have 7 cats, it would be incredible to be able to train some or all of them to use the potty & cut down some on the litter cost! Ha! How fun would that be when the inlaws come over?!?!

  26. 26

How cool! When I was a teenager, my sister’s cat taught himself to use the toilet after observing the humans in his family very closely for a couple of days. (You know that bizarre stare your cat gives you in the bathroom..?) I have a couple of very bright kittens right now who could probably figure it out with the help of this training kit!

  27. 27

This is my ultimate fantasy-I just don’t know if I can see my cats doing it

  28. 28
    peggy w

We love to try this. Especially with 18 of us. This would be great to have and use.

  29. 29

I’m curious to try it, but I wish I had a second toilet in the house to leave devoted to it.

  30. 30

This could be the answer – one of my 4 kitties can’t stand the other cats using any of “his” litter boxes so if one of the other cats uses it before him, he does his thing wherever he can sneak. He’s a smart cat so I know he would figure CitiKitty out quickly. Great concept.

  31. 31

It would be so nice not to have to deal with a litter box every day!

  32. 32

I think it is a terrific idea…My cat can already flush the commode…this would help in teaching him to use it.. just like the litterbox!

  33. 33

about to get a second toilet- so perfect timing to try!

  34. 34

I have thought about this, and thought about this- prob for years. I have been kept from doing it by a fear of protest “accidents”, but boy I have been tempted to try this. If I win it, I will take it as a sign that the universe wants my 2 kitties to pee in a toilet. They do think they are human, after all, so I bet it will work perfectly! Thanks!

  35. 35

I tried to train my cat before by using a stainless steel bowl under the lid, but it was unsuccessful. He used the toilet when I had litter in the bowl but didn’t know what to do when I added water. So with that said, I think this may be a better idea than mine; however, I am still a little skeptical since my cat really loves litter.

  36. 36

This has been on my Amazon wish list for a few years, but I’ve been reluctant to try it. I do have a toilet in my basement, so it would be ideal for testing this out.

  37. 37

I like the idea, but my cat is 15 years old. Is it possible/harder to train an older cat?

  38. 38

sooooo cool! I would love to teach my kitty how to use a toilet ^_^ i’ve already trained him to sit for his treats :D

  39. 39

Would be an interesting test to see if I could train all 3 to use the toilet. No more litter tracking everywhere would be wonderful!

  40. 40

would be great to do this, less of a mess and less chance of respitory issues! Will get my cat tested for the parasites though

  41. 41

oh my god! wouldn’t that be great!!!

  42. 42

I have three cats and i would love to be able to toilet train them but i have a feeling that my two Bengals won’t think that this is as great as I do. Also, does CitiKitty provide instructions on how to get them to flush and maybe using a moist wipe after they do their duty?

  43. 43
    Lee Sullivan

This would be great if I could train my 5 cats to use it!!!

  44. 44

I have tried a few things and this was to to next on my list…Right now I have a toilet seat with a built in potty training seat. It gives much more platform for my little Greicy to stand on…I think combined with the CitiKitty, it would be the perfect way to transition her to the toilet…As a NYCity kitty cohabitator, the lack of a litter box would give me back some much-needed bathroom floor real estate. :)

  45. 45

One of my cats gets overly aggressive when burying litter. He might not take to this idea well, but if he did it’d mean not needing to sweep the floors multiple times per day. Which would be amazing.

  46. 46

SOOO COOL!! My cat really needs some training on that. lol

  47. 47

I certainly love the idea of it. No more litter = whee! I’m worried that it might be a water-y buffet for the dog. Hrm.

  48. 48
    Jeanette Gagne

Brilliant!!! I have four kitties and this wonderful product would be great for them and me!

  49. 49
    Jessica Broussard

    awesome idea!!

  50. 50

This would be great to try. I have a tiny apartment, and the litter box sits out in the open. It would be nice to be able to get rid of the box.
