Toilet training your cat. They say it can be done, and CitiKitty has put together a complete Cat Toilet Training Kit to help make it incredibly easy. Now, I haven’t tried this yet myself, but after reading all about the CitiKitty I think I’m going to give it a shot.

The kit includes a training seat that is placed underneath the toilet seat to transition your cat from the litter box to the toilet. There’s also a training guide and a tip sheet, plus a packet of CitiNip catnip for use during the training process. The training guide has explicit instructions on how to first move your cat from using the litter box to using the toilet with litter, and then to using just the toilet with no litter. It’s a multi-step process that can be used with any cat that is healthy, at least three months old, and already successfully litter-box trained. It is also possible to train multiple cats at once.

According to CitiKitty, the benefits of toilet training your cat include:
- NO MORE LITTER MESS Toilet trained cats do not use kitty litter, eliminating the mess and smell of a litter box from your home.
- BETTER FOR YOUR CAT Because your cat is toilet trained they will no longer be exposed to chemicals and silica dust found in many litter brands, which has been proven to cause respiratory and other health-related problems in cats.
- SAVE $$$ Toilet trained cat owners have the luxury of not having to purchase kitty litter, saving them thousands of dollars.
- BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT Each year more than 4 billion pounds of kitty litter is sent to landfills in the United States. Most of that litter is made from strip mined clay which is a non-renewable resource. By toilet training your cat you help preserve precious resources.
- MORE TIME FOR YOUR CAT Why spend endless hours cleaning up a litter box when you can be spending it playing with your cat!
Now, this may not be for every cat, but there are an awful lot of comments from satisfied customers on the CitiKitty website, and there seem to be quite a few success stories, so it just might work for your cat.
A few words about flushing cat feces
This is a controversial topic, as we found out last year during Litter Week. I uncovered some important information, first read this post about the problems that can be caused by flushing cat feces, then make sure to read the follow-up post about how it can be quite safe to flush in most situations.

I would love to win this…
November 11th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
I would love to train Morris and get rid of the litter that he kicks out and makes a mess with!
November 11th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Amazing!!! this would save so much litter. I am getting this for sure!!!
November 11th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Oh man, what an awesome idea!! I have 5 cats, but a problem one that seems to miss the litter box with #2!!! This would be a great idea to try and get him to at least hit one toilet!!!!
Great stuff!!!!
November 11th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
My fiance and I do rock, paper, scissors to decides who has to clean the litter. It would be nice for both of us and our two cats to not have to do this anymore. Great idea!
November 11th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Jenny absolutely loves this!!!!
November 11th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
My girls like to play with toilet water. So I think they would be willing to learn!
November 11th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Well if you can train a child to use the potty, why not a cat? I wonder if there is a feline version of the book “Everyone Poops?”
November 11th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Oh yeah, no more box changes and cleaning! =)
November 11th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
I think Izzie would be up for this no-mess idea but her brother Cosmo is a rascal, still i sure would love to try this in our new house. The “kids” could have the bathroom all to themselves!
November 11th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
When I was a kid, the people down the street had a Siamese cat who used the toilet. They didn’t teach the cat to do this; she just picked it up on her own. I always thought that was amazing.
We have eight cats now, but one of them doesn’t have access to the bathroom (he’s FeLV positive and lives separately from the others). So, out of seven, I’m thinking that surely one or two of them could learn to use the toilet, and any reduction of litter box cleaning would be a very good thing.

We’ve always been curious about how to teach our boys to use the toilet. It is hard to conceive of never having to scoop a litterbox again!
November 11th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
I would love to try to toilet train my cats and get rid of the litter boxes. But is there a weight limit on the training device? One of my cats is 15 pounds and I would be afraid he would break through the plastic portion during the training phase.
November 11th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
This would be great. I hate scoopin’ the poop.
November 11th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Terrific idea!
November 11th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
It might be worth a try, I’d love to get away from clay litter and ours have rejected the various environmentally-friendly litters…
November 11th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
This would be a life saver! Plus my Dwight doesn’t like using the litter box now – he’s kind of a clean freak. He’s been known to have have all four paws outside of the litter box so his paws don’t get messy.
November 11th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Absolutely THE BEST idea ever!! No litter, no smell, no mess, no daily cleaning for me… with 2 very fussy kitties, I bet they would wonder why they didn’t think to use my potty all along! (It’s so much nicer than theirs, after all!)

Dear Kate,
You never cease to surprise me by finding such unique >^.^< cat things for all of us!
As a recent widow, the kids & I are on a }very{ limited budget, & I dearly hate wasting money on litter. Although they mostly go outside, when they do have to be in, notably at nite, they use a "LitterMaid" pan. It works alright, but isn't a perfect 'scooper'; then, too, there's residual odor no matter how often I adjust the lid for the reservoir. Besides, sometimes I think the Empress just plays in there to set off the motor because she jumps out & watches it, waits a bit, & goes in again, over & over, never squatting to use it ! I keep telling her it's not a toy…
She's my senior kitty, 10 yrs., & used to be toilet trained about 9 years ago. Back then, the system was quite cumbersome and unwieldy, so it was no small amount of pride she took to use it. After having a number of residence moves in a short time, she could no longer be encouraged to use a new commode; we never did figure that out, except to think she was traumatized by all the packing & moving, etc. into new abodes.
The feral kitty has just celebrated his 1 yr anniversary as my 'cat-kid', & now calls me his 'Mom'. Considering his age when we met him, I figure he's about 2 now; he's smart as a whip, as any street-smart cat should need to be to survive. He's amused at the litter pan, & especially loves to dig to the center of the earth when new litter is put in, spewing it all over! As we have a septic system, I think that potty training would be the ideal answer to our many varied personalities and idiosyncracies.
Sincerely, Dottie & The End of The Road Catz

Dottie, Post script :
This CitiKitty potty kit is more innovative than prior kits. With the high IQs of felines, the step-down process leaves no room for doubt. We >^.^< think it's brilliant !
November 11th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
I would love to see my cats use the toilet. However I hope they can learn to flush too.
November 11th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Am seriously considering. We hacked IKEA to conceal ours, but not having to scoop anymore – priceless!
November 11th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
I would love to have two toilet trained cats. I think it would be awesome if a guest happened to barge in on one of my cats using the toilet. That would be great! And I hate having to clean the box.
November 11th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
We’d love to try the toilet training. Even if only half our cats learned to use the toilet we’d be way ahead.
November 11th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
I can think of no better way to make your pet care easier… less waste, smell, and money.
Noticed some have had trouble initiating this product. Not sure if its the problem, but try moving the litter box to the bathroom slowly (new position every 3 days) and then raising the height slowly. ???
November 11th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
I’d definitely like to give this a try. A good way to hide the litterbox has been something I’ve been trying to figure out, and what better way to hide it than to get rid of it altogether?
November 11th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
Yes please—I dream of not having to deal with a cat box.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:30 am
This just reminds me of Robert DeNiro’s character in Meet The Parents. Lol.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:32 am
this is genious! the amount of money we could save by having a toilet trained cat!
November 12th, 2009 at 2:38 am
My 3 Kitties have one main box…a HUGE one…and several ‘satellite’ boxes. It is said each Kitty should have their own litter box. My boy Kitty, Edmund, does not bury his ‘business’…he just gets in, does it, and gets out. His little sister Micino will often get in and bury his ‘business’. She can’t stand the smell either! How wonderful to teach my Kitties to use MY toilet. I wanna win!
November 12th, 2009 at 4:11 am
Maybe this would stop Mario from scuba diving!
November 12th, 2009 at 4:32 am
This is so amazing,love it!
November 12th, 2009 at 4:40 am
I just can’t imagine my cats using this but that would be sooo awesome if they did….. Teresa
November 12th, 2009 at 6:13 am
this is hilarious! but so useful! i think my hubby would love this if it meant he longer had to clean the litter box
November 12th, 2009 at 6:32 am
I would love to toilet train my two cats. When I was younger, one cat I had simply started doing it on his own, but I have never tried to train one to do it. That looks like a good method.
November 12th, 2009 at 7:11 am
Oh how I would love to have my cats toilet trained. I’m all about this.
November 12th, 2009 at 7:30 am
What a really great design. You can tell that alot of thought went into this product. I have seen some similar products – but nothing can compare to this. It is outstanding!
Thank you for the opportunity to win one!
November 12th, 2009 at 7:40 am
Wow, no more litter box cleaning! You’ve got to love that!
November 12th, 2009 at 7:43 am

our cat is so curious about the flushing toilet, I think this might be doable for us! I would love to not have to buy kitty litter anymore, that would be great!
November 12th, 2009 at 8:37 am
This is interesting… I wouldn’t mind trying it with my boys, but my 18yr old will still need the the box as she has arthritis in her back legs.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:37 am
This is such good timing, ModernCat! I’m going to start toilet training my cats this weekend. I really want to win this prize, but I’m going to buy this type of training system no matter what. I have three cats now, and saving money on litter is more appealing than ever! People think you’re crazy when you tell them you’re toilet training your cats, but it’s not. I have a friend who’s done it with great success & cats are really smart. Thanks CitiKitty for making such a great product!
November 12th, 2009 at 8:39 am
This is a very interesting product. I’ve thought a lot about toilet training the cats, but I’m still unsure on the issue. I’ll check this out some more.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:45 am
Interesting idea and certainly would save a lot of work. I would really like to try this idea.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:59 am
This is a very interesting product. I would love to try it.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:11 am
I’ve tried toilette training one of my cats before to no avail. I now have 5 cats and would desperately like to get rid of the cat box. This product looks awesome!
November 12th, 2009 at 9:55 am
Não vejo a hora de ser vendido aqui no Bazil, isso é fantastico e não aguento mais comprar areia de gato…
November 12th, 2009 at 10:10 am
wow, this is a great product, I would love to toilet train my cats, espiely because of being allergect to cat litter.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:18 am
It would be a perfect world if my cat used the toilet
instead of a litter box. I would love to give it a go.
