I drove a Mitsubishi Eclipse (2006 - two door) with 5 cats and one dog. As we know shuffling animals from cars to hotels can be tricky if each is not in a carrier. My cats freak unless free in car. Therefore, I created a lightweight carrier to carry 3 at a time. I used a clothes pop up hamper for made of mesh. It was rectangular and I closed the top with same material, leaving a snapped fold back opening. It worked awesome and only cost $8.00 - and it was just like the picnic style carriers - just lighter weight and stretched! I recently moved from Austin Texas to Wenatchee Washington. I really wish that I could buy two, right now. I love the idea of a cozy bed that the lid snaps onto, so that my kitties wouldn't be scared of their carrier when I went to take them to the vet. It can be so difficult to properly restrain carriers in cars, and I don't think people realize what a danger an untethered hard plastic box could be during an accident. I also wonder if the cat will habituate to the carrier when the base is used as a bed. It could reduce the stress of transporting kitty if they're already accustomed to part of the caddy. What a wonderful idea! I especially like the seat belt clip.
