Did you know that nearly eight million pets end up in animal shelters each year, and that 75 percent are euthanized? I can’t stand the thought of someone’s beloved pet cat going missing and the sheer panic her owners must feel. If this ever were to happen to you, there’s a new service that could greatly increase the chances of finding your lost pet. IDtag.com is a nationwide (US and Canada), 24/7 interactive network for recovering lost pets and reuniting them with their families. You simply purchase one of their stylish ID tags for your pet to wear, and subscribe to the service (first 6 months are free, $9.95 per year to renew, $1.99 activation fee). Each tag comes with a unique “pet social security number” that you register at ID tag.com. If your pet goes missing, call the IDtag.com phone center or logon at IDtag.com and an instantaneous lost pet alert is automatically broadcast to shelters and rescue organizations within 50 miles of your pet’s last know location. IDtag.com’s network includes 15 thousand shelters and rescue organizations who will immediately be on the lookout for your pet.
When you initially register your ID tag, you can also upload photos of your pet and other information including veterinary records and owner contact info, which can be useful in an emergency. When your pet is found, operators at IDtag.com, who are on call 24/7, will immediately contact you on up to 6 different phone numbers.
The differences between using IDtag.com and a pet microchip include the following:
- ID tag is clearly visible
- Lower cost than microchips
- Non-invasive, no implants
- Automatic alert system to network of shelters and rescue organizations
- Easy to update pet info online
- No microchip reader needed

I think this is a great idea. Since it is visible then anyone that finds your pet can contact IDTag.com without the use of a microchip reader. This would be wonderful for my babies in case of an escape.

This is fantastic! We have four cats, 3 of them strictly indoors. However, we have a standard tag on the one cat that no matter how hard we try is an indoor/outdoor cat. Yes, she is micro-chipped, but let’s face it. That does fail sometimes if whomever picks her up’s scanner is not working properly, or they do not scan the right place. I think these tags are great! Sadly, last November, we lost one of our cats who door darted and despite our efforts (and our continuing efforts) she is still not home. Something like this could have really helped. Great product!

It’s a very good idea.

What a great service! Our cat used to be an outdoor kitty, so we’re always a little concerned about him running out the door. This would definitely provide some reassurance.
February 20th, 2010 at 12:33 pm
Don’t run away, baby!
February 20th, 2010 at 12:36 pm
Sounds like a wonderful service and the tags are stylish!
February 20th, 2010 at 12:58 pm
very nice looking tags and great for emergencies

This sounds like a wonderful service that could really help reunite pets with their owners. I like the idea very much.

These are really cute! I have 3 cats they are indoor only, but lately my oldest cat Tyson has snuck out through the door when you aren’t paying attention, not really sure why lately, he is almost 6yrs and has ALWAYS been an indoor kitty, he usually does not go any further than the deck, but this would give me some extra piece of mind just incase on day he gets brave and jumps off the deck!

Would love to win
Great product!

indoor cat’s been escaping every time someone opens the door that leads to the backyard. she likes to sniff around. idtag would be useful just in case she gets more confident and sniffs to and out the gate.

I have outdoor cats so this would be great!

On behalf of ALL furkids, Kudos and God bless to whom ever stated this org.

Really really cute. I have 6 cats….
February 20th, 2010 at 3:04 pm
I think this is a great idea alternative to microchip which has to be inplanted to pets.
February 20th, 2010 at 3:09 pm
Great idea. A little insurance for my prize-winning Turkish Van!
February 20th, 2010 at 3:17 pm
I love that it’s non-invasive! Great concept!
February 20th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
We could use several of these (2 cats, 6 dogs!!!) Here’s hoping we do
win one…
February 20th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
what a great product – anything that will assist in returning a lost pet to its home is something worth having!
February 20th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
now this is something that i would buy for family members for their pets in case something happened. I remember when my dad’s Bengal was stolen 10 years ago – how helpful something like this might have been then.
February 20th, 2010 at 3:40 pm
I loved this idea… I’ve lost a pet once, and there is nothing more frightening than the thought of your cherished friend being euthanized because you cannot localize it in time…. Thanks you!!!!
February 20th, 2010 at 3:46 pm
great service ! please count me in – thanks
February 20th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
Those are a good idea for my short haired cats, but I cannot imagine putting collars on our Norwegian or Maine Coon kitties.
February 20th, 2010 at 4:23 pm
I’d love to have one of these for my kitty!
February 20th, 2010 at 4:30 pm
My indoor cat got out a year ago, and I never was able to find him.
I was devestated,…and still cry over him all the time. I did
everything I could to find him. Maybe this would have helped.
I have four other cats now, and would love to have id tags for them.
I hope I can win these. Until you have lost a cat, you don’t know how devestating it is.
February 20th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
It definitely gives peace if mind, especially when my cat eyes the door and judges very carefully when to make a go for it.
February 20th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
Pick me, please.
February 20th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
fantastic idea!
February 20th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
What a cool idea!
February 20th, 2010 at 5:16 pm
I love these.
February 20th, 2010 at 5:20 pm
Every little bit helps, right? I don’t know what I would do if one of my purrs went missing though…terrorize the local humane society?
February 20th, 2010 at 5:24 pm
Very good idea for worried Moms!
February 20th, 2010 at 5:39 pm
IN DIRE NEED! accidently let my wifes bengal get out one day. House was in a state of panic for 20 minutes till he ran to the door scratching to get in.No possible way to catch him, he was way to fast. What a wonderful idea for any pet lover.
February 20th, 2010 at 5:44 pm
wow what a great service!
February 20th, 2010 at 6:01 pm
These tags are great looking and good for your kitteh, too!
February 20th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
What a fantastic idea. I’d be heartbroken if I lost one of my furbabies.
February 20th, 2010 at 6:05 pm
I’ve always had a concern over implanted id’s. I’ve never actually heard of negative effects. However, I don’t like taking chances with my kitties!
February 20th, 2010 at 6:17 pm
I’ll look into this!
February 20th, 2010 at 6:23 pm
My heart aches to think of my girls out in this big world with no name tag to speak for them.
I found a dog once and called the id clearinghouse number, the dogs parents were over 500 miles away… They and their dog were reunited.
Yay!
February 20th, 2010 at 6:35 pm
Good idea for my dogs which sometimes wear a collar but not for my indoor cats who never ever wear a collar.
February 20th, 2010 at 7:00 pm
these are such a great idea. while my Moo is chipped, i would love to have one of these too as they are way more visible.
February 20th, 2010 at 7:29 pm
I’m on a very limited income and microchipping all six of my cats is beyond my means; without a car or good health I have trouble just getting out. Unfortunately, my cats don’t have that problem and are faster than I am. Little Doll, who is a complete indoor cat, got out last summer, my neighbor’s dog went after her and she disappeared. Thank goodness, it turned out that she was hidden in the covered wood pile next door. I was able to leave food and water for her everyday and talk to her. After ten days, my neighbor rearranged the wood. Little Doll popped out and ran home. I am fearful of such a thing happening again.
February 20th, 2010 at 7:30 pm
Great idea and nice tags!!
February 20th, 2010 at 7:47 pm
this is truly fantastic. It’d be great if they sold tags built into/embedded into the collar, rather than a dangly one that could be ripped off.
February 20th, 2010 at 8:00 pm
One of our two kitties is quite the explorer when we let her outside… this would definitely help me feel better about letting her out!
February 20th, 2010 at 8:21 pm
Oh wow, those are cute little ID tags! And yes, the IDTag is a lot cheaper per year than the microchip company that I use now. I love this idea! My cat is always trying to stick her nose out the door, so having such a wide “APB” range like the IDTag has really would make me feel better if she ever got out.
February 20th, 2010 at 8:45 pm
If I would have known they had this…. I’d love to get something like this for my cat! =^^=
February 20th, 2010 at 8:51 pm
Wonderful idea. Would love for my kitten to have one.
February 20th, 2010 at 8:52 pm
This rocks. Great idea. Thanks for the chance.
February 20th, 2010 at 9:09 pm
This is awesome!
