Hilary from Vancouver created this pair of window perches for her two boys Hank (orange) and Truman (Tuxedo) and they seem to be a perfect fit! She used the trusty old IKEA Ekby Bjarnum brackets and Jarpen shelves mounted just below the window sill. To create cozy cushions that don’t slide off the shelves, Hilary smartly stitched some twill tape to the corners of two faux sheepskin cat beds and tied the beds to the shelves. Nice solution! And they can be easily removed for cleaning.

These are cute and creative! If I didn’t have hairless cats (ergo opting for heated window perches), I would try this. I think they look modern and more sophisticated than mass-marketed window perches (even the heated variety, unfortunately).

That’s a simple, yet great idea. For fellow UK fans of Modern Cat, I found one after a bit of searching:

and the brackets without the shelf: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90136136
Cheers!

What a wonderful idea! Does anyone know how much weight those shelves will really hold (I dont trust the website to be honest) because I have a fat cat that would probably not be able to resist a window perch like this…

I am moving to a place next month in Vancouver with lots if windows and need to payback my Dazey for having to live in a basement apartment since last year so I think that these perches around my new place would be a nice little gift! Thanks for the great idea!

Do the bjarnum brackets require a power drill to install?

What a great idea! My boys (~7 months) are getting too big for our current window seat. I noticed it was bowing a bit when they were both on it. We already have IKEA shelves in the den, so it will fit purrfectly (I couldn’t resist) with the room.
