Each year the US Postal Service produces a set of commemorative stamps to bring awareness to a different social issue. This year shelter animals are getting the spotlight! This special set of stamps features photos by photographer Sally Andersen-Bruce of animals that were all adopted from a shelter in New Milford, CT. The stamps are part of a campaign called Stamps to the Rescue, with Ellen DeGeneres as the spokeswoman, that seeks to raise awareness about adopting pets from shelters.
The stamps will be issued in a special ceremony on April 30, but you can pre-order a set now at StampsToTheRescue.com, plus you can read about each of the animals featured on the stamps.

It was so nice when people used to have pen pals…
Right now I’d love to receive a letter stamped with those!

Isn’t it great? You can buy the philatelic stamps, too, and dog stamps. There are many other products available as well such as artwork, mugs… Take a look at this post here.

Thanks so much for posting this. I didn’t know anything about them. But thanks to you, I preordered three packs and will be ready to stamp everything with a kitty!

Thanks for the heads up! I am most certainly buying them. The cats featured are so beautiful. I used to work at a Humane Society specifically with cats, and my heart went out to each and every one of them. I hope these stamps make more people aware that shelter cats are no less deserving of a home than purebreds.

A great way to raise awareness!

I’ll be so happy to have these on my letters! Of course, they’ll still need at least one tortie and one black cat to make the set complete for my household…

I love that they’re doing this! I pre-ordered my stamps

I will buy, that’s for sure!

We’ve preordered ours, Kate! Thanks for raising awareness about them. We just wish they offered CATS ONLY (they don’t — we’ve asked).

This is a good idea but so much more needs to be done. How can it be hundreds of millions of dollars was raised for the Haiti earthquake yet nearly ten million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are put to death every single year without much notice. Shelter deaths could have been significantly reduced this year if people would have donated to this tragedy which I guess will just continue on. I really don’t understand it.

It is a good thing that the US Postal Service is doing to highlight the plight of our furry friends.
