If you want to be really green this Earth Day, you could try toilet training your cat and kicking the litter habit altogether! I still have yet to try this, but I’ve read so many testimonials saying that it’s the best thing ever, I have to see if it works.
One of the best resources out there for helping you teach your cats how to use the toilet is Kick Litter, the entertaining little guidebook from Moxie and Cooper who both kicked litter themselves. The book comes with a free poster outlining the easy-to-follow “nine step intervention program” for toilet training your cat.
. . .
Note: Toilet training cats can be controversial because some research has shown that there may be a link between a parasite sometimes found in cat feces and harm being caused to sea otters on the West coast of the US. However, further research shows that if you are able to verify that your cat does not have the parasite, that flushing cat feces is not a problem. For more info, please read this post.

I don’t know if all four of mine could be trained, but I’d love to try it!
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:29 am
Lucy could totally do this – I know it! Hoping I win so I can teach her.
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:29 am
Wow how cool would be to win this! It would be so much easier if my cat woul do her things in the toilet. Nature and my walled would say thank you!

Everyone can have Mr. Jinx from “Meet the Parents”!
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:32 am
He’s always looking into it when I flush it, so maybe I should take advantage of his interest. I would soooo love to transition him to using the toilet!
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:33 am
I have plans to toilet train my kitties! They are getting big enough now that they won’t fall in. Got the litter pan in the bathroom next to the can so they’re part way there. Cute book!
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:33 am
Sounds like a great idea! I’d much rather never have to deal with scooping litter if possible
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:35 am
This would be amazing!
Pixel would love to kick litter!
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:36 am
ROCK ON! I would love to stop cleaning the 3 boxes for my 3 kitties.
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:38 am
I have been thinking of training my cats to do this… Please send me a copy!
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:40 am
Leo and Luna (L2) are so smart, they could definitely kick litter for the last time!
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:41 am
I would love to try this. Save on litter and help the earth too!
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:44 am
I would love to kick litter, but I wonder how it would work trying to train my four cats at the same time!?
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:46 am
I am moving into a new apartment and really really really want to get rid of the litter box! My bengal cat Charley is very intelligent so I see no reason why she shouldn’t be potty trained! (She basically gets treated like a person anyway
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:49 am
I’m in the process of kicking litter right now, and I can’t WAIT to be litter free. Trying to toilet train two cats with only one toilet to share amongst the three of us is proving to be a challenge, but (hopefully) well worth it. I’m using the CitiKitty kit…we’ll see how well it holds up over time with a 16 lb. cat!
Incidentally, if your cat has ever been threatened with a swirly, allow extra time for it to get used to the idea that the toilet isn’t its ultimate form of misery…
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:49 am
Seriously? Not even 12 steps?!
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:49 am
A large % of cats do NOT do well with this. All other things aside, cats are happiest when they can bury their waste. There are numerous risks in trying to do this, not the least of which is putting the cat off the whole idea and ending up w/ a cat who urinates all over the house. If you have a cat, you will have at least one litterbox. IMO folks just need to grasp that fact and get used to it.

What a great idea!!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:01 pm
I wonder if I could toilet train all 4 of my cats! Imagine all the litter that would save!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:01 pm
Training my cats to kick the litter will be easy with The best instruction book on this planet!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:03 pm
This is an amazing idea if it really works! I’d love to try it.
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:05 pm
I would love to try that with my kitties.
(and then loan the book to some other friends with felines too).
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:06 pm
my cat would pick this up so quick!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:07 pm
now that would be great if i would never have to buy litter again. i wonder if they learn to use the toilet if they also learn how to use the lever to flush?
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:07 pm
I could just see my Bengals sitting on the throne going to the bathroom. But then they like to play in the water too much to really consider something like this. They would use it to go to the bathroom, but I don’t like the thought of them playing in toilet water.
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:08 pm
OMY! I am trying to toilet train my kittens already, using roasting pans in the toilet. I tried to cut part of the pan away, so they can start seeing the toilet water, but it wasn’t successful for one kitty, so I had to switch back to a full roasting pan. I would love to read this so I have a better idea of how to KICK LITTER!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:09 pm
I would love this!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:11 pm
I would love to try training the Woodge with this….
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:16 pm
This book is so cool! We would save serious $$ if we could get all 5 toilet trained. Now where’s the book that teaches them how to cook & clean…..
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:27 pm
Would love to toilet train my two cats! I tried briefly when they were kittens, but I really wasn’t persistent. Can’t stand the dust and constant vacuuming needed with scoopable litter though!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:28 pm
Kick it!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:28 pm
With 4 rescues I would love to try this!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:28 pm
WOOO HOOO If I could train all 21 of my cats to use the potty, there would ALWAYS be a line! But, it does sound intriguing. We already use feline pine for most of our boxes, which is great for composting after removing feces…………
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:29 pm
I tried it once with my previous cat. Would love to give it another try on my current 2 cats.
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:31 pm
My kitty is already facinated by the toilet! He is just crazy enough to try it!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:37 pm
interesting. would love to win.
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:40 pm
I would love to try and train my kitty
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:40 pm
I have difficulty believing that we could train all 10 of our cats to kick the litter box, but I might be willing to try at some point.
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:41 pm
This will be such a great idea if I can get it to work. One of my cats I really believe I can teach to do this, a true miracle if I can get all three to do it!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:41 pm
I would love to try this with my 2 kitties! It’s hard to imagine a world with no litter box! HAHA!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:47 pm
Let’s Kick Litter!!!
If my cats can use toilet just like that then I can be part of green ^^
hahaha !!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:47 pm
My kitty wants to learn how to use the toilet. Sometimes she just sits there, mimicking what we do. She is so ready!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:49 pm
I would love, love, love it if my two kitties could use the restroom.
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:50 pm
kicking the little habit would save my marriage!!!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:55 pm
my Billy and Betsy are VERY interested in the toilet already…maybe they are trying to tell me something?
April 22nd, 2010 at 1:00 pm
i tried once before to toilet train my cats……i’m ready to try again…..my little girl had trouble last time. But the little boy took to it rather easy.
April 22nd, 2010 at 1:05 pm
No more changing litter??? Sign me up! Although I have my reservations about my own kitties’ cooperation…but it’s sooo worth a try!
April 22nd, 2010 at 1:14 pm
wow – it would be amazing to have my cat use the toilet instead of “kicking” his litter all over the bathroom floor instead.
Good luck everyone!
April 22nd, 2010 at 1:15 pm
I would LOVE to try this for my three kitties!
April 22nd, 2010 at 1:15 pm
This is the best idea ever! It would make my life so much easier and cleaner.
