I’ve been experimenting with paper art combining two of my favorite things: cats and mid-century modern design. The result is Retro Cats, Series 1 featuring the Moderncat Studio signature cat silhouettes combined with mid-century modern architectural block patterns. Each one is cut from black paper and mounted inside a three-dimensional frame, with the design slightly raised from a colorful background.

I created this limited edition of six pieces exclusively for Moderncat Studio. They are now available through the Moderncat Studio Etsy shop for $65 each plus shipping.

Veeery nice. Ando is my favorite of your cats, but I have to say its Simba’s images that really speak to me in this group. (Don’t tell Ando.)

I love these, Kate — especially the little stretching and the little running cats.

Kate, how did you come up with these designs? I also think instead of paper this would look nice made of iron. Maybe the wall could act as the background color. It would make a nice thing to hang outdoors.
