I’m sure you’ve already seen him, but I had to give a little shout out to Oscar, the British cat who recently made big news by becoming a bionic cat. Oscar’s new prosthetic legs, thanks to neuro-orthopedic veterinary surgeon Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick, are helping him to walk again after an unthinkable accident last fall involving a combine harvester.
As you may know, I have a thing for black cats and this little guy has stolen my heart, and I’m sure, the hearts of millions of other cat lovers, too! What an amazing kitty!

Ah I hope it works for him he seems to be adjusting pretty well. The upside is he’ll always have his tap shoes on if he wants to do a little dance.

That’s awesome!! I’m so glad they were able to help Oscar walk again

It’s amazing what modern medicine can do. It looks like Oscar has many happy years ahead of him!!!!

I watched this yesterday on BBC News and cried all over the laptop. It’s so incredibly awesome that they did that. Not many would go to such lengths to keep a cat alive and comfortable like that. :’)
And he seems so at ease with the whole thing from the very start, exploring and climbing things around, even if a bit awkwardly.
Much love to Oscar and Dr Noel!

That’s amazing! I already heard about prostheses for animals in a German TV show. Here is the link:

Sorry it’s only in German but you can see although you don’t understand how great that kitty lives with her new legs!

BBC1 will be airing episode 1 of a documentary today on the amazing vet who did the surgery, Noel Fitzpatrick. The adverts say Oscar will be featured. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00syxlx
I’m not sure if the BBC will be airing the documentary on any of their foreign stations, though I hope they will soon since I am in the US.

This story is truly inspiring. I shared it with everyone I knew after I saw it on BBC. So many animals could be saved using this type of technology!

Wow this is very touching. It’s quite amazing that the material used allows skin and bone material to grow over it. Now he just needs some black faux fur!

Many thanks to the doctor and everyone that cares for Oscar!

I’ve watched the series on the BBC last night… AMAZING doesn’t even begin to describe it! But apart from the great new technology and Oscar’s wonderful disposition, I was very moved to see how much Dr. Noel truly loves what he does and just how much he really cares about Oscar specially (he seems to be wonderful with all the other patients), he couldn’t have enough of cuddling and kissing him! This series should be aired three times a day, not late at night, and Dr. Noel deserves all the recognition and success in the world for his wonderful work!

The genuine love Dr. Noel shows for Oscar is as pawsome as the amazing technology itself. This is just wonderful.
