I have been meaning to post these since I saw them at the Global Pet Expo earlier this year. Most pet drinking fountains are made of plastic, which can be difficult to keep clean, causing feline acne to develop in some cats. Remember my post about poor Mackenzie with his feline acne? I had to get rid of all plastic bowls and drinking fountains and switch to stainless steel and ceramic, which are both much easier to keep clean.
That’s why I’m so excited about these two new pet drinking fountains from Pioneer Pet! Not only do they come in your choice of stainless steelor ceramic, but they are very easy to clean. Some of the other fountains I’ve tried have all sorts of little parts and they are difficult to take apart, making cleaning a big hassle. And if you don’t clean your drinking fountain regularly, that’s when the acne-causing bacteria start to grow. Ick!
This sleek little design not only looks good, but it only has a few parts that are easy to remove and clean. The fountain will keep water flowing, which is attractive to cats and encourages them to drink more. These fountains also have a replaceable charcoal filter to keep water fresh and they can both go in the dishwasher.
Both are available from Amazon. Stainless steel is $57.95 and ceramic $47.75.

It looks like Keith/Etsy has a website now for their fountains:

I’m in the UK and have been looking for these ceramic water fountains for a while – I’ve just found them for sale here http://www.mypetsuperstore.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_13_65

Look carefully at the picture – the pump and pump housing are still plastic. The lip is probably made of rubber and WILL gather fungal/bacterial growth even when cleaned regularly. This is better than an all-plastic water dish, sure, but it’s still not the perfect solution.
