When singer/songwriter Sarah Donner sent me a link to her sleepy kitten video last week, she indicated that she was a cat lady, but I didn’t realize just how much until I received the CDs she sent to me. First, her record label is Cat Lady Records and it has the cutest logo ever! Second, one of her CDs is titled Reluctant Cat Lady and it’s absolutely wonderful!
The CD is described as “a wholesome low-carb blend of punchy guitar and clever, sometimes sassy lyrics that take their inspiration from the gay men she dated, the feral cats she feeds, and the hardcore punk shows she has endured.” And I love it! I am a hard core Ani DiFranco fan (I was a fan before she got so big) and Sarah’s music is in the same vein, but she definitely has her own style. And Sarah sings about cats!
You can preview the songs on Reluctant Cat Lady and buy the CD for $7, or download the mp3 for $4, over at CDBaby. With lyrics like “There’s a kitty cat in the arms of my lover, and they’re on the bed, but they are not under the covers” and “Your den is the old shed out by the old fence that freezes in wintertime. But I’d give you shelter, yeah, I’d keep you warm if you’d just stay inside” this will quickly become one of your favorites, too.
And “Wishbone” is guaranteed to make you cry.
