One of my favorite mid-century modern designers is the Swedish artist and potter Lisa Larson. I’ve posted her wonderful and whimsical cat figurines in the past, and here are two of her beautiful wall tiles featuring stylized cats. I’d absolutely love to find one of these at an estate sale! You can find them on eBay and Etsy from time to time. (There’s one on eBay right now.)

Gprgeous! Coincidentally, I was doing spring cleaning of my file cabinets during the last couple of days, and ran across a magazine article about a couple who furnished their home in cat themes, including some really lovely wall tiles by another artist. Kitchen envy!

puruchased a cat tile similar to the one pictured above at a local goodwill for $2. Did not realize what I had purchased until now. Same as the cat tile above but the cat is a blueish green color with Lisa L on the bottom.

There are reasonably priced american potters/ clay artist, that produce gorgeous artwork, they are just not in your mainstream World Market, Piers 1, go to artisan fairs in your area, the prices may even be budget pleasing for all pocketbooks, you may even be able to comission one unique one for yourself, a future masterpiece. Love these tiles and Lisa’s other artwork, I am sure she did not get recognition immediately, most artisans do not, but they love that someone appreciates their artwork, even if you do not purchase, tell them if you love their work. They are unappreciated because there is so much cheap, throw-away imports to compete against.
