The creative team over at Little Hiccup has done it again. They’ve found another way to get you to turn over your expensive new gadget to your cat. They just launched Paint for Cats, an iPad app designed just for cats. You choose the color palette and let kitty do the work! Watch as she chases the mouse around the screen, creating an original work of art.
I know, I know, you’re thinking “What? You want me to let my cat do what?” I asked TJ over at Hiccup how he addresses that issue, and he told me that most cats do not use their claws when they play the game. Cats seem to know that they can’t sink their claws into the glass, which probably wouldn’t scratch with a cat’s claw any more easily than it would with your finger nail, however, they do recommend using a screen protector just to be safe.
I don’t have an iPad, but this makes me want one so I can print out my furkids’ artwork and put it on the fridge. Download the game for $1.99 over at PaintForCats.com.

If I ever get an iPad, I’ll definitely download this app. And if that painting was done by a cat, that cat is SOME artist! PiCATso?

When can we submit our art for the gallery event?

I downloaded this over Easter, and my Cornish Rex, Duncan, really loved it! We also have the “Game for Cat” for the iPad. My other cats aren’t quite as excited about it as Duncan, but they still make some pretty cool artwork! Here’s a funny video of Duncan playing it on my iPad. (Make sure you have a screen protector! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uAqQGwdy8c

Game for Cats & Paint for Cats are both big hits at our shelter. They get the older cats socializing with the younger ones (playtime becomes lesson time) and some of the more shy cats are coming out of their hiding spots to get that darn mouse.

You know, when the thing first came out, being a Mac, I saw on my home page they were asking for suggestions. Said they would pay for them. Well, I sent suggestions to the appropriate departments about making games for cats. Never heard anything back. Now I see this. I feel a little bit ripped-off by Apple Corporation.

I’m a bit confused here, won’t the cat scratch the iPad? I know mine love YouTube videos of other cats -they even try to search bellow the ipad- and also go nuts on virtual villagers trying to get the lil people moving. But I’m always standing there watching for when they may decide to attack

Oooooook, I posted earlier that I had 2nd thoughts on them scratching the screen. Well I just bought this, 1.5euros, pretty cheap. They LOVE it. I did use a screen protector -but I’ll get one soon- still no damage. The mouse is GREAT. It disappears completely, lingers, wags its tail and rushes around. Generally they’ve done it in the way a cat owner would play with their cat. It also squeaks in a funny lil way. Its hilarious to see them concentrate on the mouse, circle the ipad and wait for the time to pounce. I love it, love it, love it! Great find Modercat!

I don’t think cat’s claws can scratch glass, they may be sharp, but they are not any harder than a human fingernail. Trying to scratch an iPad, or iPhone with you fingernail is virtually impossible.
The cat might knock your iPad off the kitchen table, but scratching it with a claw is not going to happen.
In fact Little Hiccup has a video of a white 300 lb. tiger playing this game with no ill effects. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKBhTr5-ryg
