Modern Cat Furniture Concepts from Designer Bryan Stone

Industrial designer Bryan Stone has created some very cool concepts for a new cat furniture line. With names like Mod Pod, Katflat, Gattoman, Catrak and Shelfter, these could be the next big thing in Moderncat design.

From little hideaways to cool climbing towers, these designs definitely show some potential. Leave a comment to let Bryan know what you think of his cat furniture concepts. You can see more in his portfolio over at Coroflot.

All of these products are still in concept phase, but Bryan is looking for a company to work with to manufacture them. Feel free to contact him at idrawrealgood [at] hotmail [dot] com.

I LOVE these ideas! Obviously he really understands cats. Mine are always looking for little boxes and holes and corners to curl up in.

This could be a problem for me…I just re-did my living room and need something for my kits…the katflat is needing more looking into…

Love the rounded catflat2 and the meowhouse concept. Also intrigued by the ottomans. Great designs!

These are awesome. I’m always looking for mod pods. Something with two rooms for two cats to each have their own space. Combined with an ottoman is a great idea! I like the one with leather on top. Keep us posted if these get manufactured or even available as a custom build.

What do you think about putting little drawers in the gattomans for things like catnip or nail trimmers, brush and such? Just a convenient place to store our feline friend’s needs so it’s readily available while they are relaxing.

OMG love the KatFlat, especially the Z shaped one! Our cats would go nuts running up that incline and into the hidey-hole. Also really like the functional stuff like the Mod Pod and Gattoman. Brilliant! Please build them!

My favorite designs are the ones that function as people furniture too (gattomans, mod pod) because I am in an apartment and don’t have as much room to give the cats their own furniture so combining the functions is a great space saver!

Nice looking pieces. I would just like to remind the designer, Bryan Stone, to make sure they are sturdy enough for a cat/kitten like my nearly 14 lb. furry hooligan. He jumps on our current Lotus Cat Tower with a lot of power, making it rock on occasion. So, I’d say be sure these things are stable.

He has knocked down a side table and sofa table during one of his crazy tirades. I had forgotten how much fun and trouble young cats can be.

Good luck with the new designs. Hope to see them priced reasonably.

These are brilliant. I love dual-purpose furniture, esp. when it’s kitteh friendly.

Love these! So creative! I like the Gattoman the most.

I like Bryan’s concepts- especially for the “Gattoman” and the “Mod Pod”. Not only are his designs space-saving but they take into account our kitties’ need to be near us but not *on* us at times. My ocicat loves to curl up on our ottoman but with my husband and me sharing it, it can get a bit crowded for her and sometimes she will escape to the other chair. The “Gattoman” would allow her to share the ottoman with us without vying for space with our feet! For myself, I am partial to the more mid-century designs. There seems to be a fair amount of modern stuff out there but I like the things that fit in with my 1957 house. :)

As a cat lover who lives in an apartment, these designs are fantastic. For almost two years I hid a litter box under my night table in my room because I didn’t have the space for both. The coffeeline is one of my favorite designs because I think i would help cats that tend to be more anti-social to find a fun place around people and eventually learn that not all people are bad. Very unique designs for space conscious people who love their kitties!

Love the designs! Are you going to have these for sale at some point?

The Catrak kind of looks like a sweater dryer!
I’m all for dual-purpose furniture, especially if one of those purposes is a cat bed, so the Gattoman is great. The Mod Pod even better – I’m more likely to use a table than an ottoman.
But…The Cat Flats are awesome. I can see my multiple cats having a ball with those. Especially the Z-shaped one, with the scratcher. As long as the scratcher part is replaceable, it’s a winner.

Amazing! I especially love the Mod Pod and the Gattoman. Plus, Gattoman is just plain fun to say! Those are both wonderful ideas for small spaces. I also love the Catrak but hate the thought of naked pvc pipe in my living room. Perhaps a creative cover that fits over the pipe, but still allow the pipe to flex would be in order?

You are really on the cutting edge of creating ideas cat parents have probably had and were not able to execute..you talk cat language for sure…my boy would love to rub elbows with someone who understood him and how serious he takes his naps…good luck,I can wait for you to begin production and sales.

I am in-love with the mod-pod!! i am moving to the US(Providence) in a couple of months and if the kitchen on my new apartment (once i’ll find one- not easy with 3 cats) won’t have an island i am so finding a way to create something like this.

if Bryan is reading this i would love to get your email so once i’ll move if i need to i can contact you to get the plans and have a carpenter create one for me.
oops: just saw his email is in the entry :-)

wow- what great designs _I would buy several of these in a heartbeat.
Hope you get to manufacture them soon-there are millions of cat lovers who would buy this furniture in a heartbeat!

These designs are all so cool! I love how you’ve integrated cat furniture with people furniture (tables, ottomans). My cat loves the ottoman in the den, and if he could crawl inside of it, he’d be warm and happy. Definitely would be interested in the Gattoman designs and the Mod Pod. I hope you find a manufacturer.

Always touched when someone feels that our pets are worthy of their time. Bryan’s concepts show that a cat’s enjoyment is foremost in his artistic and talented mind! Keep going, Bryan, and thank you!

If this designer would ever like to donate some of his functional items to our rescue since we are all volunteers & home based, we would love to be spokespeople for these items. We are in the Tampa bay area of Florida & are a non profit based agency & ever growing. We have just started this company, but have been in the rescue business for over 5 yrs. We partner up w/Animal Coalition of Tampa(ACT),Feline Sanctuary,Inc,Humane Society of Tampa Bay, & many others to help stop the overpopulation of pets in Tampa Bay area.We even assist in the surgeries w/the TNR program. We contract to fix @ least 10 in the area to do our part.Plaese let us know if there is anyway our rescues could sample or test out products ,if need be.We currently house 25 cats & 5 dogs in rescue & our sister rescue,Feline Sanctuary,Inc has 150 cats & 7 dogs. We also have colony cats totalling 100-150 total we feed nightly, along w/volunteers,etc.Any shelter domes for ferals are always much appreciated. The local businesses let us set up, little shelter areas for them, but we are looking for more durable & affordable means for the both warm & wet Florida climates, any & all suggestions would be greatly taken.Thank you for your time.
    Sincerely,
    Victoria

Love the designs. My favorite is the KatFlat and the ottomans. I hope he finds a company to work with him because these would sell.

You have a lot of great ideas. I liked Modpod, Shelfies, Gattoman, the cat hassock or foot prop idea with kitty inside. Really I like most of your designs, especially the ones that are functional for the owner and the cat(s). One design I was not sure if there were downward leading tubes to the next level or if I was seeing shelves. I would prefer an ottoman with no metal feet, one person’s preference You are doing great designs. I would love to have something you design. Best Wishes and I hope to see you selling some of these soon. There should be a good market for these designs.

These designs are great; these designs are way cooler than what is on the market. If I could help you manufacture them, I would. My cats love the hideaways … good luck!!

I love these designs. I would buy that coffee table in a heart beat.

Don’t forget to maybe add some scratching surfaces to your ideas, like the last two round table and tall retangle table.

    Nerdycat

Attractive designs for people with plenty of floor space! Would they be easy to keep clean? I`m trying to imagine getting the vacuum cleaner into the interior spaces to remove dust, fluff and the occasional dead mouse.
I`ve said it before but the best place for your cat is on your knee, sitting on your keyboard or outside playing in the garden. If they spend their time hiding away in a Designer Cupboard, where`s the fun in that?

Bryan great designs. You have to know cats to design like this. I like the backwards katflat z but I would but food dishes in the base of it. Well I wouldn’t at my house. When my cats get to playing thats the first thing they spill.
I really like all of them. I like the round one as well its very modern looking.
The gattomans are neat. My cats and I would love that. I almost have to have a bigger loveseat. Once I sit down I usually have at least six cats sitting with me. Its a tight squeeze. Cats love to be close to their humans at times and to have one of these at the base of your feet with a cubby hole would be awesome.
Again love the designs and best of luck. I hope you get them produced cause I want one or more. :)

There are some great ideas here! Not only can the kid DRAW, but the kid can DESIGN, too! I liked the very first picture: a lovely little glass-topped table for the cat who likes to be part of the conversation. We had a cat like that! Boots would always show up when we had friends over for drinks and lounge in the background. Now he could lounge in the middle and hear the conversation even better!

I am always looking for verticle ideas for the “crew” of mine. Not too many that are as retro looking as these. Bryan, hope you find a company that can work with you and bring them to life. Ever hear of a program called Shark Tank? This would be perfect for it!! Good luck.

    Bryan,

Very cool designs! I am loving that there are some sophisticated designs coming on to the market. Really tired of the 1970′s bulky carpeted cat trees.

Some of the designs I’ve seen are very sleek and modern (yours included) but the real niche would be to make a line that is affordabe. I’ve been impressed but also a little leary of spending $500.

    Thank you for your creativity!

I just love the concept of cat and human together. Since mine seem to have the knack of being under foot where ever I am making many of these pieces ideal! Plus they love little hide aways!!

Very nice. Please make them with variable size entrance holes, so my little shy cat has a place to go without the big ones pushing her out.

These designs look fabulous! I’m in the process of redecorating my home and designs like these would fit perfectly with my style and my kitties would just love them too!

    Oliwia

I would like to see some of these products in shops in reasonable price.
I really like the Katflats (the Z-shaped and big, stackable one) and the Shelfter. I’m not so keen on the other projects, either because of the look or functionality. My cats would probably try to attack sitting people from inside of the Gattoman. The Coffeeline looks nice, but I wouldn’t enjoy cleaning cat pawprints and hair everyday.

  46. 46
    Grace

I really like your concepts since these can be incorporated into the furnishing of the home and stil provide a place for the cats to play.

I hope you do find a company to partner with and get them into production.

Keep up the good work! I love the katflat designs. PetCo sells a cat ottoman covered in sisal, and the kitties love it. It would be nice to have a more elegant version with a removable pillow on top.

  48. 48
    Linda

I like the sleek, compact look of this cat furniture.

  49. 49
    Lita K

Oohh, I like! A clever way to bring cats really into the home fold. A query though, things like the coffee table and the ottomans would have hinged lids, yes? ‘cos if you ever need to retrieve the little darling for say a vet visit, it could take a while extracting them! If I had the money I’d help fund these myself. Stylish and stimulating. We all know cats want to be involved with their family, just in a way that lets them be superior to us mere mortals…:)

All very interesting, but do not know if they would fit in my decor.
