“Whisker stress” is caused when a cat’s whiskers brush against the sides of his or her dish while eating. Since a cat’s whiskers are extremely sensitive, you can imagine how uncomfortable this can be. One way to alleviate whisker stress is by feeding your cat in a wide, shallow feeding dish. Here are three stylish options to make sure kitty can eat stress free:
- The Ultra Fat Cat Luxury Stainless Steel Cat Dish from Wetnoz
This sleek stainless steel dish is raised slightly off the ground and has a streamlined modern look. Kitty will appreciate the wide shape and you’ll love how it looks in your modern kitchen. - Whisker-wide Recycled Glass Pet Food Dish from Big Shrimpy
Made from 100% recycled glass, this beautiful shallow dish is perfect for eco-conscious kitties. Available in green or gray. - Replus Siam Raised Cat Dish from Bowsers
The simple clean lines and contemporary look of the Replus Siam Raised Cat Dish would fit beautifully in a modern home, plus kitty can enjoy stress-free eating from the wide ceramic bowl set into the raised base. Available in black and mocha.
All three are currently on sale with free shipping at AllModernPet.com.

Very nice, I think I prefer the “Siam” style.

Is there any good evidence that “whisker stress” is something that we should be concerned about?

I’ve been waiting so long for someone to come out with a matching water fountain and whisker-friendly food dish set. I’d make one myself, but I’m not that crafty :\

The raised designs especially would make cats happy — I just wish they were a little less pricey, for a larger family like ours! But for smaller cat families these would be wonderful.

I am embarrassed to say I have owned a cat(s) for over 20 years and I didn’t find out until recently that cats should eat in wide bowls/dishes.
I can’t believe I was so out of the loop!
I think these are just great!

I just purchased this cat dish on a 14 day trial. Yes it is a bit more expensive; it is very sleek and appears well made. My immediate concern is attempting to devise a safe means of elevating this dish to a more desirable 6 inch height, making it truly elevated. I contact WetNoz inquiring if they will be making this dish in a more elevated design; their response — “Unfortunately, there are no plans in the near future to make a more elevated version. However when we discuss future designs this will be something that I will make sure is brought up. The elevated feeding bowl idea has taken off for the canines but I’m not aware that it has been even hardly touched for the feline world. Great idea!”. Apparently they are not at all aware that cat people are just as cognizant of the importance of elevated feeding stations for their beloved felines. Probably if more cat people contacted WetNoz they would give more serious consideration to elevating their distinctive designs. Contact Stephanie Cox at stephanie@wetnoz.com, 512.670.7706 (Texas).
