When I saw this on Design-Milk last week, I immediately thought, “This is a cat’s dream come true!” What kitty doesn’t love to sleep in an open drawer? This is part of a project by Sovrappensiero Design Studio for Italian office furniture manufacturer Manerba, taking old office furniture and creating new products from the parts.
Just think of the possibilities here! I want everyone to hit the thrift shops and see what you can come up with. Please send photos of your creations!

OMG! Gizmo would love this. He manages to find my serving try on any serface I leave it, just so he can sleep in it… If I leave it on the endtable he’ll sleep there, if I move it to the ottomen he sleeps there. Silly cat.

How clever! I’m building a catio, and this would be absolutely perfect!

This is a nice design. I think, though, that a lot of cats love drawers because they offer a cave-like atmosphere, having a “roof” as well. One could take an old dresser and decorate it to compliment the other decor, just for cats, and line the drawers with soft washable padding, of course!
Nicole, hope we see pix on Catioshowcase.com when your catio is done!

Now this is awesome! I wish I could do things like this for my kitties. Especially my feral cats that my husband and I take care of, I wish there was more we could do for them.

I SO want to make something for my kitties! My first idea is to screw a couple of drawers into the top of this bookshelf I have under one of my windows.
The bookshelf comes about 6 inches under the window sill, so neither the sill or the shelf is quite up to my kitties standards as is. Sooo I find 2 drawers just the right size to fill the top of the bookshelf, make them comfy, and 2 cats will be purring with delight!
As a side note, I have seen shelves made from dressers without their drawers… 2 for 1 DIY!

Several cats of mine over the years have decided that chests of drawers are for breaking into and then climbing around and pushing other drawers out.
It occurs to me that a cheap second hand chest with some holes cut into the bottoms of some of the drawers, and perhaps rigged by cutting rear legs a bit so the drawers would self-close, would keep some cats entertained quite nicely…and it would usually be just a nice neat piece of furniture…
I also use 3-4″ cedar fence posts for scratching posts, usually bracing them against the ceiling with a spring or adjustable furniture foot…
