Lowe’s Creative Ideas put together an awesome set of instructions and a demo video showing you how to make this cool 3-section kitty condo using basic supplies.

It starts with a cardboard concrete form and a carpet runner. A little adhesive (look for one that says non-toxic when dry) and voila!

Visit the Lowe’s Creative Ideas website for all the instructions or check out this video to see how it’s done (if you can’t see the video below in your email, click here to watch it on the site).
Thanks to Moderncat reader Jim for the find!

This was in their catalog a few months back. I want to try and make one for my cat Mar. Since the supplies seem inexpensive I was thinking of making one for the local cat rescue as well!

I love how inexpensive and easily customizable this is. Green carpet match your house better? Have a princess and want it in pink? I mean, you could keep building on it too. Make a pyramid as big as a wall. Love it!

I really like this idea. I think that even I might be able to do that without messing it up – too much.

Such a cool idea! We didn’t know those were available. We were able to get a freecycled cardboard tunnel that had commercial printing paper on it. After looking at lots of cat tree designs, we finally picked one we liked from a catalogue to use for a pattern, thank goodness that we have something to start with already! Maybe this will be the next project after the cat tree is finished.:)

I find that cat condos, gyms etc are great for kittens but too small for adult cats, especially large cats like mine. I’d try to buy wider tubes and I’d cut them twice as long. Maybe even make a pile of five or seven. You could always use a couple of the spaces for storing shoes or something too

anyone priced the tubes, glue and runners ?

I made this for my two rescue kittens — they love it! It’s in front of the patio doors so they can watch the birds. One kitty loves to scratch horizontally so she’s already ripped the top up a bit but I figured on replacing that with the leftover carpet pieces anyway, and it really doesn’t look too bad. Not dirt cheap to make (cement form: $11-15, carpet runner: $20, Liquid Nails (we needed two tubes): $10-12). I also needed my boyfriend’s help with sawing the form — not as easy as it looks to get those pieces even! Also highly recommend using one piece of carpet per tube as they specify. It took a bit of effort to get it laid down even and smooth and to get the glue to grip it (had to clamp it down in places) and pieces would just take too long, I think. I’m picky about the look of pet furniture and this looks cute and modern and it’s so easy to move, too.

Looks easy enough and you can add more ideas to it, upright tube for those long stretching types. Also feel that the idea of covering with sisal rope adds more variety for the bored feline. wonderful idea. Tahn k you so much.
