Everyone’s favorite internet cat Maru recently acquired a fabulous cardboard hideaway, which he demonstrated for us on YouTube. This appears to be Kamakura’s Lair, a cardboard cat habitat created in Japan and available through the Japanese website Rakuten.

What a perfect little hideaway made from heavy duty cardboard. Maru’s a lucky guy, since it looks like this creation costs ¥9300, which is about $120 US.

If you haven’t seen the video of Maru with his new house, check it out below (if you can’t see the video in your email, click here to watch it on the site). Apparently, he was only interested in his new hideaway after it was placed on his favorite chair. He’s such a funny guy!

This cat has so mnuch personality. Like the bed too. Wondering how long it would take a cat to destroy it with the clawing on it. I know my cats would claw it they love cardboard, they do not need fancy shapes just a plain cardboard box will do especially one that you are storing thngs in.

The house looks like it is just his round body. To die for adorable.

This is wonderful design and it looks so durable. I am so amused that cardboard, the classic throwaway product of our time, now becomes more expensive than any pair of shoes I own!

What an amusing cat. And he just fits inside the bed.

How did you ever get Maru to get into that little space.
and to play with you on top of it.

I did not think the video of the kittie trying to climb into the Kamakura’s Lair Cat Bed was cute or funny! The kitty could have been hurt. Would you allow a child to climb upon a chair that rolls without an adults’ assistance? Please think before making decisions that could result in your pet getting hurt!

Looks really need new (before they start scratching it…) but won’t be a great idea for cats since they can easily get asthma from breathing in cardboard fibers.

Maru is adorable! I like the bed, but it is way to pricey for cardboard. You can buy a Hepper Pod bed for $99, and it will last for years.

How can I order / buy one? I live in the USA.

Maru rocks! And so does the new bed!

Why… why why why? It looks cool. It’s a stylish design, but why would anyone who knows a thing about cats design cat furniture made of: cardboard? Really? Some people just have too much money and/or time on their hands. What’s next? Kitty’s personal TP roll with cardboard dispenser?

Made from cardboard. $120. They must be kidding.

This is awesome, but way overpriced!
