Someone pick me up off the floor, I’m completely blown away by these exquisite new cat trees from German design firm Wohnblock! Now this is Moderncat design! From what I can surmise via Google Translate, Wohnblock was created by designer Oliver Kriege with the intention of synthesizing function and aesthetics to make both cats and their guardians happy. I think he’s achieved his goal because these gorgeous cat trees make me very happy and the beautiful kitties seem to be enjoying them, too.

Of course these beautiful and functional objects come with a hefty price tag (in the $2000+ price range), but we can all dream about owning one. Each piece is handcrafted in the Wohnblock studio in Essen, Germany.

There are two styles of cat tree currently available, the Retro and the Reading Cat. Both have replaceable carpet pads that come in a variety of colors to match your decor. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing when else this company does in the future.

They are beautiful!

Wow! What nice advertising shots, too!
The “Reading” model is so intriguing. I really want to investigate it so I can see the little hidden passageways that must be there. The design is an elegant way to meet your household needs.

These are wildest cat trees EVER! I do believe these are my favorite trees yet…..they are so perfect in every way.
March 2nd, 2012 at 9:17 am
I love these both! The best cat trees I’ve ever seen and unfortunately the most expensive too!
March 2nd, 2012 at 9:20 am
Wow, these are nice. But it looks like you might need an extra-high ceiling for these to fit.
March 2nd, 2012 at 9:22 am
Love the retro design!! I have 11 that would give this the workout it deserves!!
March 2nd, 2012 at 9:22 am
These are all so very COOL! I love the fluffy carpet on the white Retro in the first pic.
March 2nd, 2012 at 9:33 am
WOW…these are not only beautiful but functional. I’d love to give one to my 3-kitties.
March 2nd, 2012 at 9:33 am
Nothing has given me goosebumps (the good kind of course!) on here like that Reading Cat has just done. I mean I LOVE IT! Pure genius!! I certainly can’t afford it but my mind is turning on how I could build it myself!
Thank you so much for the introduction!

While this tree IS beautiful, modern and swanky looking, it is extremely overpriced and impractical.
A common issue regarding MOST cat trees are stability. The base is poorly weighted, as well as the thickness and length of posts. When a cat jumps off the top, you do not want to experience a slow motion effect of the tree itself collapsing on it’s side and destroying everything in it’s path, or injuring your feline friends.
This post is extremely overpriced. The designs are stencil-created and cut by a machine, which costs significantly less than by hand. The amount of work to put this together is comparable to an IKEA bookstand, in all reality.
Charging $2000+ is really an insult. I am tired of seeing modern, practical designs for cat owners poorly executed, as well as the creator insulting its customer by charging insanely out of range prices.
I would like moderncat.net feature more practical projects that are easier to do at home, such as Sari’s DIY Litter Box cabinet. This was a reasonably priced project that cost a little over $100, and was fairly easy to do at home.

This design is so unique, it’s absolutely beautiful. This cat tree would look great in any home, I just wish I had the money to buy it! Any cat, including my three, would be in cat heaven.
March 2nd, 2012 at 9:44 am
Wow. I like the retro…
March 2nd, 2012 at 10:20 am
These are not only wonderful trees for the cats but truly a work for art.. Would look great in my living room with 2 of the cutest kitties to enhance the look!!!
March 2nd, 2012 at 10:35 am
Hmmm. I’m already trying to conceive of ways to recreate these for my own home. Excellent design—beauty and function!
March 2nd, 2012 at 10:38 am
wow – love
March 2nd, 2012 at 10:44 am
Wow! What beautiful cat trees! I love the photos, too
March 2nd, 2012 at 11:09 am
You can dream about owning one because there’s no way to buy it on their web site — that is even if I spoke German! Kind of a bummer. So pretty and no way to get it.
March 2nd, 2012 at 11:29 am
These are FANTASTIC!!! Love the Retro.
March 2nd, 2012 at 11:49 am
Really like the designs…the kitties would too.
March 2nd, 2012 at 12:12 pm
These designs are definitely WOW! I’d love to have them all, but even if I could afford them, I would never buy them. Think of how many cats $2,000 could save, or how $2,000 would translate into cat food and supplies for one’s own beloved cats! It’s a no-brainer — the CATS would win.

Ganz schoen! Ich liebe es!
March 2nd, 2012 at 12:25 pm
I love the retro one too! But both look beautiful and highly functional!
March 2nd, 2012 at 12:53 pm
What beautiful functional art! Oh, how I wish…
March 2nd, 2012 at 12:56 pm
Beautiful! I keep dreaming.
March 2nd, 2012 at 1:56 pm
This cat tree is Astounding! Beautiful modern design and fabulous vertical function for any cat! I love the Retro in dark brown and green. It would look lovely in my craft room!
March 2nd, 2012 at 2:13 pm
Sofa King Cool! I wish all cat furniture was like this.
March 2nd, 2012 at 4:03 pm
The design looks genius! Functional, gorgeous, and kitty friendly. I do love a well-thought-out piece of construction.
Such a smart design!
March 2nd, 2012 at 4:47 pm
This cat tree is absolutely gorgeous! Would be a dream for my girls >^..^<
March 2nd, 2012 at 7:15 pm
Hi-such neat cat trees. I like the Retro design. My cats would love one of these. I would put it right in front of a big window, where it could be seen from outside too! Thank You!
March 2nd, 2012 at 9:26 pm
AN ADORABLE AND NICE DISIGN!
March 2nd, 2012 at 10:03 pm
Is there a book somewhere that shows how to make steps on the wall for cats.
March 2nd, 2012 at 10:34 pm
Wow. These look great and very stylish.
March 2nd, 2012 at 11:04 pm
I love these. They are the best I have ever seen. I am afraid to look at the price but must do…
March 3rd, 2012 at 7:37 am
I love it! I hate the ugly look of traditional cat condos. But why does all the great stuff come from Europe where we can’t get our hands on it. Would love to have more North American based suppliers.
March 3rd, 2012 at 9:50 am
Love the retro – when’s the drawing for the give away? >^..^<
March 3rd, 2012 at 11:50 am
What an AWESOME design!!! I would throw that guy right in front of my front window for my boys! Would love to nab one of these!!!
March 3rd, 2012 at 12:40 pm
Very cool, cat-friendly design. I question its stability, but I’m sure the designer evaluated this before going to full-scale production. More power to these german folks if they can get the price they ask for this– it’s certainly one-of-a-kind.

March 4th, 2012 at 4:48 am
I’m with Rob and jmuhj on this one.

Now, this is fit for a Moderncat!
March 8th, 2012 at 11:39 am
Love this and would love to get rid of the home-made cat tower my husband and I made.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:34 pm
OK…This is unbelievable! I soooo want a white one…I have to order one of these..but I really want 3 or 4…great designer whomever came up with this great idea for these towers!
March 26th, 2012 at 7:21 pm
I love it’s versatility as it matched to whatever furniture may go together. The style and creativity made it standout.
April 18th, 2012 at 7:01 pm
@rob
Have you seen one of these trees? Or are you just bashing around?
In general german customers have a way higher demand regarding quality, therefore offering a product with only a nice design but poor quality wouldn’t work there. These designers do not only create nice things, they check for functionality, too.
You can be pretty sure to get a good product, with better quality then Ikea, if they ask for that price. It’s Germany, not the US. Success doesn’t mean to earn a lot of money by ripping of enough customers before you get burned, it means providing good value for good money and creating a good reputation…..it’s a different world!

Absolutely heavenly cat trees. How does one get one?
May 18th, 2012 at 8:27 am
Why, oh why, did I see this? Now no cat tree will be good enough in comparison. Who knows, if I ever have a lot of money laying around (a girl can dream.) I will get the retro tree. I am in love!
