Animal Welfare, Giveaways

Do you know a cat shelter that needs a face lift? Well, here’s your chance to help them out! The folks over at The Vertical Cat are generously donating $1,000 worth of their fabulous cat climbing products to help one deserving shelter “catify” their space.

And that’s not all! The winner of the “Catification Makeover” will also receive a free phone consultation with the The Cat Daddy himself, cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy, and yours truly, Moderncat. Together we are the Catification Team, combining Jackson’s cat behavior expertise and my design tips to create amazing, cat-friendly environments.

We’ll work with the winning shelter to design a cat room using The Vertical Cat’s shelves, stairs and trees. The Vertical Cat has already sent their products to several cat shelters, including the Branford Compassion Club cat rescue in Connecticut, where they created the beautiful blue and white cat room pictured above. Their products are also in use at the Tree House Humane Society in Chicago, where the cats are loving their new environment. Just think of the possibilities for your favorite shelter!

Nominations are now being accepted for the $1,000 Catification Makeover from The Vertical Cat! To nominate your favorite cat shelter, please complete the form below. Your nomination will be sent to the team at The Vertical Cat, who will choose 10 finalists. We will announce the finalists here on Moderncat and everyone will have a chance to vote for the winning shelter. The shelter with the most votes at the end of the voting period will win the $1,000 makeover, including a phone consultation with Jackson Galaxy and Moderncat.

Nominations must be submitted by midnight on May 13, 2012. Finalists will be announced on May 16 and voting will take place May 16 through 22. The winner will be announced here on Moderncat on May 23. This giveaway is only open to shelters in the continental US.

I nominated Animal Kind in Hudson, New York. As a crossposter/tagger/rescue contactor on social media including facebook, I can personally attest to the valuable and caring services Animal Kind provides; unfortunately, their facilities have recently been destroyed by fire, and they desperately need fosters for the cats ( and, of course, funding to rebuild their facilities and get up and running once again. Please support Animal Kind! Thank you.

Animalkind in Hudson, NY. A fabulous cat rescue that just lost their entire facility to a fire/ waterdamage-they really need it most!

  14. 14

I nominated Animalkind inc. of Hudson NY who desperately needs a catification facelift after the fire in their facilities this month that left 150 cats homeless. It was a very sad day. Winning this would make everyone including the cats much happier.

Please help AnimalKind in Hudson, NY. They are one of the most compassionate, determined, dedicated and hard working cat rescues! Unfortunately fire & water has displaced the whole organization and it will take months to rebuild and they need all the help they can get!

AnimalKind not only helps the cats in Hudson, they work tirelessly to help all the neighboring towns and counties. They are the only game in town and they are THE BEST!

    Thank you!

I also nominated Animalkind in Hudson, NY. This is where I adopted my kitten almost three years ago. The staff were nothing but nice to me, and they just recently experienced a horrible fire that left them with NOTHING. The water damage was so bad, they had to move all the cats out (luckily, none of them were harmed in the fire thanks to the sprinkler systems). If any shelter deserves a makeover, they do! I hope they get it!

  19. 19

Just nominated Animalkind in Hudson, NY. They are trying to recover from a fire that ruined their shelter. Fortunately, they were able to rescue all of the cats but now need to find homes for the cats and repair/rebuild their shelter. They really need the help!! We are voting for you and sending our best wishes.

I nominated Animalkind in Hudson, NY ! Katrin and her husband are awesome and the service they provide to kitties in need of forever homes and the ferals on the street are truly selfless and unending! I hope you guys win and for all the other shelters nominated…. I wish you all the best of luck and say thank you to helping our beloved animals. Peace.

I just nominated Animalkind of Hudson NY. As one of the foster moms they desperatly need a makeover. After the interior of the building was destroyed from water damage from a fire they need a facelift. Please vote for them, every little bit helps, the 150+ cats and kittens will appreciate it.

    Loraine Crivelli

I voted for Animalkind in Hudson NY because they have recently had a fire and need all the help they can get to rebuild. I have adopted my cat Sam from them and met with the loving staff and saw how beautiful they kept the shelter. I wish them the best of luck with their rebuild!

  25. 25
    Hilary Harris

I also nominate Animalkind in Hudson, NY. Their center was destroyed by fire and water. All the cat beds, furniture and structures were ruined. Nothing is usable. They NEED this desparately, not as decorating, but as a rebuilding from the bottom up. The cats will have a home again, where they run freely and are happy.

  26. 26
    Joy ryder

After the fire at Animalkind, they need HELP!! This no kill, minimal caged facility houses 150 cats at the moment..and they could use a makeover!!

  27. 27

I also nominated Animalkind. They need all the help they can get to continue the valuable work that they do. The cat climbing products would be perfect for the large rooms the cats are free to roam in and would help them on their way to recovering from the fire.

  28. 28

I nominated Animalkind in Hudson NY. They are so deserving of this makeover, not only because of the horrible damage done to there building, but also because they are kindhearted, dedicated and truely in it for the well being of cats. The volunteers are dedicated and work hard to keep the cats that they house happy an healthy.

  29. 29

Animalkind in Hudson, NY has always been the “go to” when Police or Firefighters from throughout the county, come across abandoned or abused animals. Katrin Hecker, who is the founder of Animalkind has created a well run, humane organization that strives to do whatever they can to help these poor felines; from medical care, adoption, to providng food to owners of pets, who can’t afford to feed their animals. Animalkind is now itself homeless due to a fire that has destroyed their facility. I do hope that it survives this terrible setback. They do such wonderful work that it would be a blow to the community as well as the homeless cats they care for if they couldn’t survive this catastrophy. Good luck to you and thank you for everything that you do.

I nominate AnimalKind in Hudson, NY. It’s where my 2 boys came from ( and to see it destroyed after a fire on May 1st, it just breaks my heart. Katrin Hecker, the director, is one of my greatest animal heroes. I even wrote about her surreal life at Be the Change for Animals not so long ago. I so hope she wins.

  31. 31

I nominated Animal Kind in Hudson NY also. They need all the help they can get with refurshing their shelter for all the furbabies. It was probably so stressful for the felines and their kittens. PLEASE HELP! They are so great! Thank all of you that vote for Animal Kind!

    Steve Dininno

Animalkind in Hudson NY is soooo deserving! They are guardian angels to the huge stray population in Columbia County NY. As other commenters have pointed out, they suffered a devastating fire and are in dire need of this makeover.

I nominated Animalkind Inc in Hudson NY but was unable to provide the 3 photos required. I hope that doesn’t eliminate my nominatiion. They are so badly in need right now of anything due to the recent fire and the over population of rescued cats. They do a great job there and really deserve the help.

    Kim Kokoska

AnimalKind has suffered a fire which has destroyed everything. Luckily, no animal lives were lost, however, this deserving and dedicated rescue needs to rebuild. Please vote AnimalKind!

This shelter is now in dire need of funds:

I just nominated Animalkind in Hudson NY. As previous posters have stated, they had to evacuate 120 cats from their premises at short nitice when a fire and water damage wrecked their premises two weeks ago.

Take a quick look at their site for more info and photos- I know all rescues are deserving, but this one takes from the dreaded Brooklyn and Manhattan ACC!

Please help Animalkind in Hudson NY. They provided so much assistance to our community in helping control an out of control cat population. Even though i no longer live in that area, i remember their help and support. They do so much and they now need help because a recent fire has destroyed their shelter.

I nominated Animalkind in Hudson NY. They are a great shelter and so much more who recently lost everything to a fire and water damage. Let’s not forget to vote for Animalkind on the shelter challenge on the Animalrescuesite!! PLEASE help

I just nominated Animalkind, Hudson, NY. They suffered terrible damage in a fire on May 1st. Animalkind housed over 100 cats.

Animalkind is now temporarily located at the Warren Inn on 731 Warren Street. The “Warren Inn Motel” generously offered temporary housing for their office and 50 cats. 60 cats are homed in foster homes
and 10 cats at Petsmart in Hudson.

I vote for Animalkind in Hudson NY. If anyone needs a makeover (and any additional help if possible) it’s Animalkind. I beleive this place will be completely gutted in order to repair all of the wet walls so it would be easy to decorate seeing that you are starting with many rooms of blank walls.

  41. 41
    Jay McKillop

Have also just nominated Animalkind. A most deserving organization in need of some help at the moment. Best of luck to them.

  42. 42

I nominated Animal Kind in Hudson, NY. They just suffered an enormous fire and Ms. Hecker has been so devoted for so long in rescuing otherwise doomed felines, they seriously need consideration for a make-over. Though so much more needs to be done, this will at least give those devoted to the rescuing of cats in Hudson and beyond a great emotional as well as practical boost.

  43. 43

I nominated Animalkind in Hudson, NY. They really need help right now after the fire! 150 cats/kittens need our help!

  44. 44

I nominated Animalkind in Hudson – - they do such great work, and the fire was devastating and has them in temporary facilities while they try to repair the damage… these funds would so greatly help them! But I tip my hat to all in animal rescue – bless you for the work you do.

  45. 45

I also nominated animalkind in Hudson,ny. Please help get this amazing shelter back on its feet after all the damage from a recent fire displacing 150 cats!

  46. 46

I see a lot of needs and it really says so much about the rally around these shelters and most of all the cats. I would say that while many shelters are fabulous places for cats to be, the ones that educate the community day in, day, all year, night and day, to include children, seniors, special needs children and are humble, are the examples of what we need in the rescue community..Ones that stay in contact and repurpose cages and help struggling rescue families with food donations they get and create more programs for special needs cats, black cats, injured cats and also, this is critical, like people too, are what makes a facility the ones that will flourish and continue to not just shelter but to carefully place cats with growing success.

That is why I highly suggest Fieldhaven Feline Rescue.

We have four black siblings from a colony rescue this year, now known at the Beatles and we are so thankful to how they walked us through the process. Ethical, dedicated Feline Folks who give everything they have and are in a campaign right now.

I feel that animalkind deserves this makeover because they just suffered a severe fire that destroyed their facility. Let’s help get them back on their feet so they can continue to find homes for these beautiful cats.

Please help for this animal shelter – Animalkind, Inc.. . May 1st Fire Badly Damages Animalkind Shelter.. All rescues had to be moved to temporary locations..

Dear Friend of the Felines and Animalkind,

Tuesday night at 11 pm there was a fire in the building of Animalkind.

Due to the fast response of the fire department and our sprinkler system, no lives were lost.

Unfortunately the water damage is tremendous and we needed to evacuate all 120 cats on Wednesday. The Warren Inn generously provided a temporary housing place, but many of our rescues still need a place to go.

We have nowhere to go and no funds.

    We are in
    desperate NEED
    of locations,homes, foster homes
    and donations!!

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
