This unique invention provides a solution that may be exactly what you’ve been looking for! It’s the Gatefeeder, a patented controlled feeding solution for cats. It was created by Philip Eu, a cat owner who faced the challenge of feeding his two cats each a special diet, while his busy schedule didn’t always permit supervised meals. One of Philip’s two cats was diagnosed with a medical condition and he needed a special diet and medication, but Philip couldn’t always get home twice a day at meal time to make sure that both cats ate their own separate food. Philip searched but couldn’t find a product that would do what he needed, so he designed the Gatefeeder.

The Gatefeeder is a compact unit that keeps the cat food inside behind a door. Your cat wears a small Smart ID RFID sensor on his or her collar. When the cat wearing the right Smart ID approaches the Gatefeeder, the door unlocks and only that cat can access the food. No ID, no access.

This is perfect for keeping other pets or children out of kitty’s food. The Gatefeeder can hold up to a weekend’s worth of dry food, or it can keep canned food cold with an ice pack for up to 10 hours. Food is stored in a removable, washable stainless steel bowl and there is a viewing window on top so you can easily check the food level. The Gatefeeder is recommended for cats weighing 5 to 20 lbs. It is available directly from gatefeeder.com for $249 US.

I would love to win to give our older cat a chance to actually get some food before the others that normally steal hers.

Oh my, this is ingenious! This would definitely keep the dog out of the cat food. Cats and humans? Happy. Dog? Not happy!

I soo need this for my oldest kitty! he’s on a special diet, and with other cats, I can’t just leave his food out for him. This would really help make sure he’s eating enough AND eating what’s he supposed to!!

I have nine cats and one old girl is hyperthyroid. Though medicated, she is hungry many times throughout the day. She can’t eat dry food because of her age so this would be perfect to hold her wet food with the cold pack. She could snack all day long, keeping her weight up, and not have her food stolen by the other kitties. What a fantastic invention, another “darn, why didn’t I think of that”.

This would be great to have for my one cat because my other one is diabetic and she can’t just eat when she wants so he’s a hungry boy!

I have one officially geriatric cat and one senior cat. These two have been together fir ten years. And while not the best of friends, are in agreement about eating each other’s food. You never know one may tastier food than the other. Unfortunately this is no longer an option in their senior years, as one has a thyroid condition. The other one’s appetite has declined and the smaller of the two will gladly eat both of their meals. Enter their human caregiver who must now stand guard twice a day making sure a cat invasion from either side does not happen. Each cat plays how close can I get before she shoos me away. I would like to resign my post as food guard. I could really use the gatefeeder, so I no longer have to be a human gatefeeder.

Wow! This is is amazing. And so needed! I also have 2 cats with different special foods and it is hard to always be there to supervise the feedings. Very, VERY cool.

A great product, this is a huge problem when you have more than one cat because sometimes they can get territorial when eating, I’m sure this helps eliminate over eating as well, I really love this idea and very much enjoy to see this and other products alike from this brand. I have 2 cats one with a large appetite, sounds like a must have for me!

For a couple of years now I have been thinking of something along these lines…on a larger scale. I have 11 indoor cats right now and would like 11 unique collars with associated “pet doors” so that each cat has access to their “quarters” for eating, resting, litter box using, or whatever else they want to do by themselves. In searching off and on during that time, this is the first thing of the sort I have found… Phillip, any chance of producing just doors? It would surely help me out! And, the number of unique RFID is pretty much limitless, right? Suggestions from anyone would be appreciated.

Dear MDVA,
RFID pet doors are already available from 2 vendors that I have seen so your problem may already have an answer.
You are correct that RFID is essentially limitless in terms of Unique numbers.
Thanks everyone for the very positive comments. Very appreciated.

This is a great invention. I have been looking for something like this and yet you have created the thoughts from my mind. I have a diabetic cat who loves to eat the other cat’s food, so it is hard to control his diabetes. This would be the perfect invention. I would love multiple supplies of this invention for other purposes as well.
