. . .
Why does it seem like everything for cats has to be purple? Many of the pet product development companies have defined the stereotypical cat owner as someone who can’t get enough purple, lace, frills, and faux fur. If you prefer a more modern aesthetic, you’ve probably had difficulty trying to find items for your home that accommodate both your cat and your personal style.
This blog is a resource for cat owners with a modern style. I seek out the newest products for living with cats in a modern home. I try to identify not only products that fit a modern aesthetic, but also items that are truly innovative and that make living with cats a more enjoyable experience. Moderncat combines product reviews with other useful information for cat owners in a clear and concise format.
In addition to working in consumer product development and marketing, I am a dedicated cat owner with a background in design. I am passionate about this topic and hope that this blog will serve as a useful resource.

A Cat Tale (Desert Living, November 2007)
Didn’t you always wonder what the crazy cat lady’s house looked like inside? Contrary to popular belief, this web site implies that it might actually have some design integrity. Moderncat.net is a blog where cat owners who are more Eames than Laura Ashley can hear about new hip furniture and accessories from retro ID tags to beds and loungers that they can share with their furry friend. Creator Kate Benjamin is both a cat owner and designer who found a need for a modern pet owner resource. Product reviews and other useful information is included to help visitors decide what fits his/her (and cat’s) lifestyle best. Check out the groovy Scratcher Beds from Marmalade Pet Care–not only do they come in the neatest shapes, but they are made from renewable and recyclable materials, too. (And Kate loves them!) -BC
