I came across this line of stylish cat products from Dutch company Curver. They specialize in plastic home goods and also have a line of litter boxes, beds and carriers that look like rattan but are made of easy-to-clean plastic. They also make sleek storage containers decorated with cat photos, like the litter storage box pictured above.

The Curver website says that their products are available in the US at HomeGoods, Marshall’s and TJMaxx, but I can’t find them on the store websites. Some of the products are available in the UK through AmazonUK and in the Netherlands through PurrFectDesign.

Here’s a completely new kind of carrier that’s quite good looking, too. It’s the Curvations Luxury Pet Carrier from Petmate. The whole thing folds up for storage and pops open into a soft but rigid form. There are openings on all sides for ventilation and visibility and it says it’s washable.

It measures 18″ x 12″ x 14″ so this would be good for small to medium cats (my 17 lb. Maine Coon might be a little snug in there!) Available in chocolate and white zebra print and also in a pink and white abstract design.

Here’s a new way for kitty to travel in style! It’s The Mommy Bus — beep, beep! This soft carrier has a top opening for easy access, plus the front window unzips, too. There are two large, zippered storage pockets on the sides and all four wheels are little zippered pouches for extra storage. It has two carry handles and an adjustable shoulder strap. The Mommy Bus measures 15″ long and 13″ tall, accommodating pets up to 15 lbs.

One of my least favorite parts of going to the vet is strapping the cat carrier into the car (which is not optional, but the way!) Here are a couple of interesting pet carriers from Iris. The first one is a side-loading carrier, probably good for smaller cats since it measures just 18.3 x 9.4 x 12.8 inches. Available in this nice green and also in a soft pink. Normally $29.99 US, but now only $26.00 on Amazon.

The second one is a picnic basket type carrier with a top-loading door and two handles. This one has a storage compartment on the top, plus a smaller access door. Also for smaller cats, but slightly larger than the first one, measuring 19.2 x 13 x 12.2 inches. Reviews on Amazon are quite good, just one comment about the handles being somewhat awkward. When I first saw this new carrier, I was intrigued, so the nice folks at Sheraton Luxuries were kind enough to send me one to test out. I’ve been using it for transport to the vet, and not only am I a fan, but my cats are, too.

This intriguing form appears to be a concept for a cat carrier that attaches to a bicycle. It is from French product designer Olivier Gregoire. There is limited information on his website, leading me to believe it’s just a prototype, but I think it’s an interesting concept.

While at the SuperZoo expo, I also stopped by to visit my friends at Sleepypod. They gave me a sneak peek at their new “Blossom Pink” Sleepypod, which they are launching in October in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 15 percent of the profits of sales of the blossom pink Sleepypods will be donated to breast cancer awareness and research charities. Donations will be ongoing and not limited to the month of October alone.

If you’ve been to Target lately, you’ve probably noticed that they have expanded their pet offerings. I’m a huge fan of Target and their philosophy of making good design affordable, so I always keep an eye out for their latest cat products. This one was brought to my attention by a reader (thanks, Turi!). It’s a compact and inexpensive cat carrier. From reading the reviews, it sounds like it works best with kittens and smaller cats. The soft material has both pros and cons — it’s safer if your cat is prone to hurting herself inside a hard carrier, but it may be a bit flimsy if she tries to claw her way out. It definitely has space-saving advantages, since it folds up for easy storage, or you can leave it out for them to play in between trips to the vet.

Finding a well-designed pet carrier, that is appropriate for cats, can be quite a challenge. Hard plastic, bulky forms, and difficult-to-use latches are the norm. Generally, the carrier is associated with a negative experience for both cat and owner. Finally, the designers at Meowme have developed a truly innovative pet carrier.
