Here are some wonderful artisan-made cat products from an organization that is making a difference. SERRV is a nonprofit organization that supports artisans and farmers worldwide by marketing their crafts and goods through an alternative trade outlet. The program helps these artisans to build their businesses, providing them with a sustainable income.

The SERRV website offers all kinds of goods, including a few interesting cat products. The Double-Decker Cat House, shown above, is a collaboration between two different groups. Dhaka Handicrafts from Bangladesh makes the frame and the cushion is made by a different group in Nepal. The frame has a wire base that is wrapped with fibers from the Holga plant, a renewable resource found along the riverbanks in Bangladesh. The Holga Scratching Post, also shown above, is made from the same material.

One more kitty-related find on the SERRV website comes from The Community Crafts Association in the Philippines. This set of two cat toys is woven from lukmoy vine and each has a metal jingle bell inside.

Ever wonder what happens to all the beautiful fabric scraps that are left over from making the super cool Cat Ball hideaway beds and Cat Canoes by Jenna’s Red Rhino? Neko Flies just launched a set of brand new attachments for their wildly popular wand toys and they sent us some to test. I let my newest product tester, Little Bear, have a look and he approves! BIG TIME! These three new attachments are mind-blowing!

The new collection features little design elements that will drive cats crazy. The new Foxifur Kittenator attachment is made with a little bit of faux fur attached to a “head” that’s perfect for grabbing onto, as Little Bear demonstrates above. Actually, I have to pry it out of his mouth, he loves it so much. It is just the right size and texture and the tail wiggles just like a live critter (but it’s cruelty-free!). Introducing CatAmazing, a new toy for super-intelligent kitties! This is a fun little puzzle box that is really well-designed. They just sent us one to test and I’m really impressed with everything about it.

The team over at GO!PETDESIGN in Brooklyn has been hard at work creating some fabulous new toys for kitty. As with all of their creations, the new toys are handmade using re-purposed, recycled, and natural materials. Plus these toys are all made in the USA.

I’m always on the look out for a good wand toy, so I’m excited to see these two new offerings from GO!PETDESIGN. Their new Roach Rod is a 12″ rod with a giant felt cockroach attached to a string. The roach is filled with organic catnip and has six dangly little legs to drive kitty mad. The Rat Rod is similar, but with a Scrappy Rat attached. I can see many hours of fun, interactive play with these toys!

I’ve had one of these in the closet for a while, but I pulled it out when the foster kittens arrived, and boy am I glad I did! It’s the Bergan Turbo Track Cat Toy, and not only does it keep the kittens entertained, but it’s bringing out the kitten in some of my older cats, too!

The lime green race trace can be reconfigured a number of different ways. Just snap together the segments, insert the ball and you’re ready to go. We’ve been using it in the standard figure eight layout. I want to get another one or two to create a super turbo track that goes all around the living room!

I also love that it’s easy to clean, simply take the plastic pieces apart and wash them in soapy water.

The Turbo Track is affordable at just over $15 from Amazon. It’s a really good investment and my cats don’t seem to be getting bored with it, because I notice them batting the ball around throughout the day, every day.

Here’s a fun variation on the popular ModShaker catnip rattle toy from Moderncat Studio. It’s the new DoorShaker door-hanging catnip rattle toy. It’s a ModShaker attached to an elastic cord that lets you hang the toy from a doorknob so kitty cat have some vertical entertainment.

Simply attach the base of the toy to any window in direct sunlight and the solar cell automatically activates the moving rod with a dangling toy. It’s a pretty cool idea!

They sent me one to test and I’m quite impressed. The large suction cups hold the base on the window securely and the solar cell works immediately when exposed to direct sun. The cats love the dangly toy and I love that I don’t have to buy batteries!

What’s new at Moderncat Studio? Check out our limited edition A-frame Modern Cat Scratcher and Play Station. These fun little sculptures combine both art and function for you and your cat. The A-frame provides cats and kittens with a vertical scratching surface and a fun place to hide under and around. Our popular ModShaker catnip filled rattle toy hangs inside on an elastic cord, enticing kitty to play.

The A-frame scratcher measures 12″ wide, 13″ deep and 15″ tall, so it’s great for kittens, but even my bigger cats like to play under and around it. Our model, Andy, is still pretty small at 8 months.

Based just outside Providence, Rhode Island, Up Country designs and manufactures a line of colorful, fun pet accessories, including these new catnip filled kitty toys. Mimi Mouse wears an Up Country signature ribbon and the catnip fortune cookies come packaged in a takeout box. Both are handmade with soft brightly colored fabrics.

With a 9 month old kitten in the house, I’m constantly looking for distractions that will hold his attention for as long as possible, so I was thrilled when the folks at Aïkiou sent me the Stimulo activity center for cats to test. Stimulo was originally designed to slow down speedy eaters. The toy comes with a sturdy base that holds tubes of different lengths. You put kitty’s dry food in the bottom of the tubes and she has to dig around to get it, slowing down her chow time and helping with digestion.

We don’t eat dry food, so I filled up the Stimulo with small toys and set it down for Andy to explore. It does the trick! He will work away until most of the toys are out, then he plays for a while and goes back to clean it out. I stuff the toys back in periodically and he’s thrilled.
