Ryan lives in northwestern Pennsylvania and her art is inspired by her six cats and her two children, who are portrayed as cats in her work. Halloween is an especially good time of year for this style of art and Ryan creates these adorable Halloween ornaments with some of her signature cats.

I love it when an artist’s work makes it clear that they are a cat lover. Well, the husband and wife team of JW and Melissa Buchanan, aka The Little Friends of Printmaking, are certainly feline friendly. The first image above is a self-portrait of JW and Melissa with their two cats, Ralphie (the handsome buff fellow) and George (the stunning gray and white cow cat). The second image above is a new screenprint design called Cosmic Cat. This 19″ x 25″ hand-printed poster features a super-relaxed calico kitty taking a happy nap. It was printed in a limited edition of just 50 and is available in the LFOP Etsy shop for just $25.

The portraits by Australian illustrator Caitlin Shearer have a unique vintage style, often incorporating feline friends. Available as prints and originals in her Etsy shop.

Megan over at Modcatlove recently posted some of these breathtaking street art stencils by Christian Guémy, A.K.A. C215. This French street stencil artist is being compared to Banksy, but he definitely has a style all is own. His work has shown up in Istanbul, Dakar, Brooklyn, Morocco, and New Delhi. He always works with images that relate to the local culture, and cats are a common subject matter. Feast your eyes on some of these magnificent creations.

We’ve all had the disaster in Japan on our minds over the past few days. I know that everyone is praying for the safety of those affected — both the people and the animals. As we all know, cats are cherished companions in Japan, where they have been revered throughout history. One area that we have all been thinking about is Tashiro Island, or “Cat Island”, located on Japan’s vulnerable east coast, that is home to a community of elderly Japanese people and hundreds of cats. Early speculation was that the island was devastated, but recent reports indicate that the residents, and hopefully the cats, may have been able to make it to the higher elevations on the island.

One way you can help is by supporting organizations that provide animal rescue in situations like this. Artist Bernadette Kazmarski is doing her part by donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these beautiful block prints of her two tortie girls.

These gorgeous pieces are made with linoleum block printing and then hand colored, a technique that is of course associated with traditional Japanese art, making this a fitting fundraiser. “The Goddess” and “The Roundest Eyes” are available as framed prints and on t-shirts in Bernadette’s Etsy shop.
